1/ "Simulation" sounds harmless because the word lives near training wheels, flight games and spreadsheets where nobody admits the forecast is fictional. In a system that holds secrets, a simulation is still computation. It can still learn things.

1/ Decoded: the upgrade that only pretended to happen. On Sapphire, a contract can keep a private key in confidential storage. Useful. Unfortunately, someone can also simulate an upgrade without submitting it, which gives mischief a free trial.

Most security stories start with someone breaking in. This one starts with someone clicking Preview. No transaction or alert or tiny onchain receipt saying "a crime may have occurred." Sometimes the dangerous permission is not "execute." It's "show me what would happen."
