Wakefield Trinity can confirm that Max Jowitt will leave the club to join York Knights at the end of the 2026 season.
In 12 years since his debut, the fullback has made 188 appearances for Trinity becoming only the third player in the club’s history to score over 1,000 points in the famous Red, White and Blue.
The Academy product made his debut for Wakefield back in 2014 against St Helens following in his father Ian’s footsteps playing for his boyhood team.
The 29-year old improved immensely under the tutelage of Daryl Powell breaking the British record in 2024 scoring 500 points through Trinity’s treble winning Championship campaign.
Since Wakefield’s return to Super League, Jowitt has made 37 appearances over the past two seasons.
On his time at the club, Max Jowitt said: “I’m really thankful to the club for giving me a chance when I was a young kid coming through and supporting me for all of the years I’ve been here. It’s been very up and down throughout my time here but some of the memories I’ve made along the way I’ll remember for the rest of my life and tell my little boy about.
“I’ve enjoyed every time that I’ve pulled on the Wakefield Trinity shirt and run out in front of the fans. I can’t thank them enough for the support they have given me over the past 13 seasons. Every year no matter who has left or joined the club it has always been a special group of lads at the club and I’ve made friends for life in this place and that’s something I’ll never forget.
“I want nothing more than success for Wakefield Trinity and know that the fans will be enjoying trophies in the next year or two. It is sad to be leaving the club. I just hope the reception I get from the fans when I come back is a warm one.”
Trinity Head Coach, Daryl Powell said: “Max has been a phenomenal player for Wakefield Trinity throughout his time at the club and has continued to be at the top of his game since I joined the club.
“Sometimes in this game you have to make really tough decisions and those choices aren’t always to say that someone is a bad player. This move is more about the evolution of the team that we have here at the club with some of the signings that we have already made ahead of the 2027 season.
“Max has the opportunity to play the minutes he fully deserves as a number one fullback at York. We know that Max will finish his career here with the club on a high note playing his best rugby league and I’d like to wish him and his family well on the rest of his career.”
Director of Rugby, Ste Mills said: “Max has been an outstanding servant to Wakefield Trinity, and it will undoubtedly be difficult to see him depart the club at the end of the year.
“Unfortunately, sport is a results-driven business, and sometimes difficult decisions have to be made in the best interests of the club moving forward. We have huge respect for Max and everything he has contributed during his time with us.
“We would like to wish Max and his family nothing but the very best for the future. He leaves with our thanks and respect, and we look forward to watching his career from afar and seeing what the next chapter holds for him.”
