The NKO strengthens education with knowledge from research. With our partners from science, practice and policy we identify issues, signal trends, stimulate innovation, develop knowledge and make it accessible.

The NKO coordinates and funds educational research, with the aim of improving education in the Netherlands. The research can cover all education sectors, from early childhood to higher education and further training.

When funding research projects, the NKO always employs practical relevance as an important criterium. NKO-funded research should produce knowledge that benefits educational policy or practice as much as possible.

The Comenius programme promotes the innovation and improvement of secondary vocational and higher education in the Netherlands. This benefits students and the development of the career of education professionals. 

The NKO participates in a number of international activities, as part of its mission. The activities contribute to the objective of improving Dutch education; countries can learn from their approach in education.
