To my fellow Brooklyn Dems,
Key votes from the Brooklyn delegation of NYC Council played a decisive role last week effectively solidifying the victory for Councilmember Julie Menin in the Council Speakers race.
I have complete faith that not only do we have in Julie a battle-tested leader and ally, but Brooklyn will finally have a seat at the table, and not be forgotten.
A broad coalition of supporters from across the City, including the Democratic county leadership from all five boroughs, collaborated as a unified front to endorse Julie.
Julie is the most qualified and experienced candidate to succeed to the position of speaker, a role often unseen by the public but well understood by insiders as one that demands coordination, diplomacy, and the ability to bring many voices into alignment.
Knowing Julie's long-standing record in public service advocating for universal childcare, affordable housing and uplifting MWBEs and small business development, labor and the working families of New York, I know she'll be an incredible Speaker and enhance the incoming new era of leadership at City Hall.
Her commitment to equity and opportunity embodies Brooklyn’s principles, and I am eager to see her bring transformative leadership to the Council. With Brooklyn—the largest county—now playing a significant part in the City Council, her influence will be substantial.

It was an honor to reaffirm my strong support for Julie, who attended the event alongside a remarkable group of friends and colleagues. Notable guests included Ali Najmi, General Counsel to Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's Transition Team; Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez; Councilmembers Farah Louis, Lynn Schulman, Chris Banks, Harvey Epstein, Chris Marte, Shaun Abreu, Kalman Yeger and Gayle Brewer; and all my friends and allies in labor.
