Inspiration

We can learn personal finances and budgeting in classes but applying it in real life is different. We were inspired by our own needs to stay within our budget which led us to create an automated budgeting app that will make it easier for everyone with budgeting goals to use.

What it does

It allows a person to create a goal with their money. They can section off percentages for the top categories in which the app will keep track of their spending for that month allowing them to be more aware of their spending habits. It also plays on their competitive side by allowing them to keep a leaderboard of who stayed within their goal limits

How we built it

We used Figma to build the UI and tested it from the perspective of the user. We also used java code for the arithmetic of calculating their budget goals.

Challenges we ran into

  • Designing the prototype (UI design)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Completing our prototype
  • Using data visualization through graphs to easily track progress and areas for improvement

What we learned

  • How to use Figma to design a detailed prototype
  • How to network/form a group
  • How to communicate effectively within the group

What's next for Capital One Goals

  • The reward feature
    • This would increase the incentive for the user to follow their goals. Getting cash back as a reward for accomplishing their goals will encourage them to save and keep working on their goal and even set new goals.
