Inspiration
Predict the 6ix is so fun. Our team spent most of Friday looking for arbitrage opportunities and thinking of creative markets to try to publish. Some of the most interesting things to me were the very personal ones. Stuff like "Will Saturday dinner start on time?" were roughly in-line with what I anticipated, but when goals became about just regular individuals such as "Will Jeremy Siu go to Juicy Dumpling tonight?", we realize the potential that comes with personalized markets.
What it does
PeerPot is a platform for markets to exist that are based on individual goals. Users can create their own markets that are personalized for themselves, apply a relevant filter, and then offer their own stable coin to begin "growing the pot". Users can also see other users Pots and either back or fade them, emulating the Yes or No actions that are present in prediction markets.
How we built it
Base44 was the rock of our development cycle. We were able to quickly prototype and generate reusable UI components to get a consistent appearance. To handle the actual betting, we leveraged the Solana Toolkit and Unifold to handle all relevant crypto matters, while also reducing latency. We restricted the market to only use stable coins (USDC) as to not have valuation changes affect the distribution of profits.
Challenges we ran into
Hilariously, none of the members of our group knew the basics of any form of web3/blockchain technology, let alone would we know how to integrate Solana to elevate our project. The vast majority of the time was spent learning the basics and thinking of applicable use cases for this new branch of technology. We also had to resist the temptation of all the fun Hack The 6ix attractions like the workshops, karaoke, and activities!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the very rapid knowledge accumulation that each of us performed in the early hours of the hackathon, getting a basic understanding of a foreign field of technology. We're also proud to push a project that doesn't have to rely on an LLM to perform the "magic" of a hackathon craft. PeerPot is a solid project for people, by people, built with intelligent software engineering skills.
What we learned
To never compromise on rest and to focus on the individual. The inspiration of the project came from our team's personal interest in Predict the 6ix, and we're confident that this starting point is more authentic than just staring at the sponsor prize list.
What's next for PeerPot
Reoccurring bets for habit enforcement. Something personal like "X will maintain their daily Duolingo streak" should automatically resolve and reinstate itself at a regular time interval. Additionally, we'd like to support more coins than just USDC in the future, to avoid nasty conversion fees.
