𝗣𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗣𝗛 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 Congratulations to Zorex Salvo and Freilla Mae Espinola, elected by the Board to lead PythonPH into its next chapter. Both have been part of this community for years — Zorex as a longtime contributor, former Director of Engineering, and PyCon PH 2024 Chair, and Freilla as former Director of Outreach & Diversity and currently also the Executive Director of the Python Asia Organization. I've been doing Python infrastructure work for about 15 years now, starting with Django (DSF board, security team, fundraising team, Technical Board, Ops Team), then pip and virtualenv, co-founding PyPA and founding Jazzband, working on conda at Anaconda, and now chairing the PSF board. The ecosystem has changed a lot since then. The PSF has grown with it, but until recently there was no strategic plan guiding where to focus. Starting in 2024, the board set out to fix that, with community interviews, staff review, and a lot of discussion about what the foundation should prioritize over the next five years: supply chain security, PyPI, community support, financial sustainability, and partnerships. The plan is designed as a living document with annual reviews, so this won't be the last chance to shape it, but the current feedback window is the most direct opportunity. My PyCon Singapore keynote was a personal and difficult one. I was invited to talk about AI and education, but ended up sharing why I walked away from teacher training in Singapore more than twenty years ago. The conversations afterwards made me realise it was not only my story. I wrote about what AI is revealing, what good teachers do, and what education might learn from open source.
