About Backstage Backstage is an open source framework for building internal developer portals. Spotify created it and donated it to the CNCF, where it is an incubating project. Hundreds of enterprises use it, such as American Airlines, Expedia Group, LinkedIn, Siemens, and Booking.com. A portal built with Backstage starts from a software catalog of services, APIs, and infrastructure, then adds the plugins a company builds for its own engineers. Codemod for the community Here is the Backstage v1.52 upgrade from start to finish: one command, a local report to review, and the published package on the Codemod Registry. To try it, run this in your Backstage repository: npx codemod @backstage/v1-52-0-migration-recipe Framework and SDK maintainers use these open source tools to build migrations and publish them: Codemod CLI — scaffold, publish, and run codemods from the terminal. JSSG (JS ast-grep) — Codemod's open-source code mining and transformation runtime built around ast-grep. Codemod Workflows — run a migration as a sequence of steps, including steps that call AI. Agent Skills — an open source set of CLI-first tools and instructions for Claude, Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents to analyze code, generate codemods, and run them. Codemod Registry — discover, share, and run codemods. Each package carries its own metadata. We also sponsor and contribute to ast-grep , a polyglot toolkit for querying and transforming code. Codemod for the enterprise Platform teams use Codemod to run the same migration across many repositories and keep a record of what changed.
