The film uses on-screen text, music and sound effects, with no spoken narration. OpenRoot is a free developer program and community for open-source builders: build useful software, get it seen and work toward rewards. Approved builders host projects in the OpenRootdev GitHub organization, manage their projects and receive free, best-effort newsletter and social promotion.
To apply, you need a GitHub account, an email and an interest in software other people can use. You do not need existing users, a finished idea, a particular language or a public repository from day one. Apply at openroot.dev/apply, accept the terms and wait for manual review. Enter portal sign-in codes only on openroot.dev. Never email passwords, sign-in codes or API keys.
After approval, accept the organization invitation and start a new repository with OpenRootdev as its owner. Existing-project transfers are reviewed. Share releases with hello@openroot.dev for promotion consideration. Projects must become public before earning rewards.
Stars, completed-month downloads and meaningful active usage have their own milestone ladders. Organic growth only: no bots or bought stars. The first eligible 20-star milestone unlocks 800 points; 50 stars add 900 more, reaching 1,700 cumulative points. Later star milestones extend to 5,000 stars and 22,500 cumulative points. Only reached, reviewed milestones unlock points, not arbitrary counts or repeated payouts.
Claims are reviewed manually by email. Include the repository, milestone, dated evidence and previous claims. After approval, choose an eligible available non-cash reward. The film shows potential $20-$10,000 AI API allowances and a one-month DeepLearning.AI offer; each offer's availability and exact terms are confirmed before issuance. Points are not cash, and rewards are not guaranteed. Hackathon builders are welcome; eligible pre-approved hackathon bonuses and community hackathons are planned, with no dates announced in the film. Visit openroot.dev/apply to get started.
The OpenRoot Developer Program supports open-source developers with project visibility and milestone-based rewards. If you are developing a project other people can use, or have an idea for one, you can apply to join.
We help promote member projects on socials and in the newsletter, completely free of charge. Reaching agreed project milestones gives you a chance to earn eligible rewards, subject to review, offer terms and availability.
Promotion is not limited to one feature: highlights, showcases and deep dives can return to a project as it grows. How we share projects
Just want to learn, contribute or meet other builders? Community joining is separate from the developer program and rewards.
The program is live. Applications are open for review, and approved accounts can access the portal. Milestone claims are open for manual review. See milestones and claim instructions.
We are looking for builders creating, or exploring, projects intended for other people to use: useful tools, software that solves a problem or helps its users do something. New ideas, existing projects and undecided applicants are welcome; your project does not need existing users.
Bring your own idea. Any category, programming language or documentation language is welcome. You can build privately while getting started, enter hackathons and collaborate elsewhere. Project freedom
A GitHub account is required. Projects are hosted inside the OpenRoot organization. Your project and access

Seeking founding partners to expand the initial offers. Claim and fulfillment terms are being finalized.
We plan to host internal community hackathons and collaborate on public events with partners and co-hosts. A focus will be reusable open-source solutions to practical community needs, such as volunteer coordination, repair initiatives and accessible community resources. These are possible themes, not announced projects or events.
We are looking for hackathon partners, co-hosts and local ambassadors around the world. Explore partnerships or help organize as an ambassador. Dates, participation terms and any funded prizes will be published before registration.
We rely on advertising revenue and partner support to keep the program free for builders. Reading the free newsletter and following LinkedIn help us grow our audience and reach potential sponsors.
OpenRoot Public Goods Fund is an initiative in development, not a separate legal fund or an open donation program. We intend newsletter advertising, future merchandise income and partner support to help sustain public-benefit open-source work, alongside the staff, operations and reserves needed to deliver it. No fixed share of revenue or per-subscription contribution is pledged. A free newsletter signup is audience support, not a donation. Any restricted sponsor funding will follow its agreed purpose.
No purchase, paid subscription or donation is required to apply or qualify for review.
GitHub Sponsors is planned. For now, contact partner@openroot.dev about sponsorship.
