2027:Wikimania
Wikimania 2027, the 22nd Wikimania conference, will take place in 18–21 August, 2027 at Santiago, Chile, as an in-person and online event.
After 18 years, Wikimania returns to South America, an historic opportunity to rethink digital environments from the Global South. This will be the third time Wikimania is held in Latin America and the second in South America, following the editions in Buenos Aires (2009) and Mexico City (2015).

The theme for Wikimanía Santiago will be: "The Internet we want".
At a time when the original open spirit of the Internet is under threat from concentration, surveillance, and geopolitical fragmentation, Santiago becomes the stage for the Movement to address a crucial question: What kind of Internet do we want?
From South America (a region of immense linguistic, cultural, and epistemic diversity) we propose imagining an Internet that is more diverse, more equitable, and more just; where knowledge is a right rather than a privilege; where minority languages are valued on par with hegemonic ones; and where collaboration prevails over the extractivism of data and knowledge, where digital public goods (geared toward the public interest rather than profit) are promoted and strengthened.
What is Wikimanía?
Wikimania is the largest annual conference of the global Wikimedia movement and is held each year in a different country. It brings together community volunteers, editors, developers, researchers, free knowledge activists, institutional partners, and representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation and its affiliates to share best practices and discuss how to improve the free knowledge ecosystem.
Its arrival in Chile marks a new chapter in the history of the movement, reflecting the growth and maturity of the Wikimedia community in Latin America and the strength of a volunteer network that, for more than a decade, has built bridges between communities, languages, and forms of knowledge.
A collaborative effort
Hosted with the cooperation of Wikimedia chapters and volunteers from across Latin America, the organization of Wikimania Santiago is based on close collaboration between the Wikimania Core Organizing Team (COT), Wikimedia Chile, the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF), and the Wikimania Steering Committee.
Our goal is to celebrate the connections and communities that give life to Wikimedia, and strengthen the bonds that build the internet we want.
