Nectar’s Story
Known then as the National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources, the Nectar project was established in 2009 through the Australian Government’s Super Science initiative, financed by the Education Investment Fund. In 2013, it began being funded through the Australian Government Department of Education’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). In 2018, Nectar became part of the ARDC.
Nectar is operated and maintained by the ARDC in partnership with 10 institutions, or ‘nodes’, across Australia and New Zealand:
- AARNet
- Adelaide University
- Intersect
- Monash University
- Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre
- QCIF Ltd.
- Swinburne University
- The University of Melbourne
- University of Auckland
- University of Tasmania.
With our partners, we continue to develop Nectar, including by investing in GPUs and other leading-edge infrastructure, enhancing cybersecurity, and launching new services. We’re committed to improving Nectar to provide Australian researchers with a competitive edge through cloud computing services designed for research.
