Welcome to Data Science at USC

Data science is not just a field of study: it is a new way of understanding the world! From artificial intelligence and social networks to health, sustainability, business, and public policy, data science shapes the decisions that define our society. The ability to extract insight from complex data, to design intelligent systems responsibly, and to translate analysis into impact is one of the most powerful skills of our time.

At USC, we prepare our students to think critically, act ethically, and innovate boldly. Our programs combine rigorous foundations in statistics, computation, and machine learning with interdisciplinary applications that span engineering, social sciences, medicine, business, the arts, and beyond. Data does not exist in a vacuum, and neither does our education.

Located in Los Angeles, one of the most dynamic and diverse innovation ecosystems in the world, USC offers unparalleled access to industry, startups, public institutions, and global organizations. Our students engage in cutting-edge research, experiential learning, and real-world problem solving from day one. They work alongside leading faculty and collaborators who are advancing AI, computational social science, health informatics, sustainability analytics, and many other transformative domains.

What truly distinguishes data science at USC: Our human-centered vision. We believe that the future of data science lies not only in building powerful algorithms, but in designing systems that are fair, transparent, and socially responsible. We are committed to developing leaders who understand both the technical depth and the societal implications of their work.
