Inspiration
- Poor college student life. 'nough said.
What it does
- A budget tracking app that logs all of your expenses.
- Display the expenses of the user based on the categories spent in.
- Displaying how much the user has spent/ has left.
How we built it
- Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. And Cheetos.
- On a more serious note, we used a database API (PouchDB) to store the transactions.
- Also used the node.js framework for the routing calls to the pages in the web app.
- HTML and CSS to stylize and format the web pages.
- Lots of help from great mentors c:
Challenges we ran into
- Learning JavaScript and node.js from scratch
- Being confused at CSS/HTML/EJS
- Freezing at 5AM
- Sleep deprivation
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built this app with no prior knowledge/experience with JavaScript/ node.js
- Created something during the hackathon.
What we learned
- UI/UX Design
- Web Development
- Databases/routing server calls
What's next for BudgetTracker
- Making logging each transaction simpler, such as taking photo of bills, saving frequently made transactions
- Allow for goal-driven savings/targets
- Help user calculate how much to save within a certain period to achieve certain targets
- Searching for a certain transaction or sort transaction by date made.
- Design improvements
