🌌 Cosmic Time Traveler Simulator

πŸš€ Inspiration

We’ve all heard that time is relative β€” but what does that really mean?
Inspired by Einstein’s theory of relativity and our fascination with the cosmos, we set out to create an interactive simulator that visualizes how time flows differently on various celestial bodies β€” from Earth to Mars to the edge of a black hole.

πŸ•’ What it does

Cosmic Time Traveller Simulator is a visually immersive web app that:

  • Displays a live ticking cosmic clock.
  • Replaces numbers with planets, stars, and black holes.
  • Allows users to select celestial bodies and see how time passes differently across each.
  • Dynamically updates the background and clock speed based on time dilation and planetary rotation.
  • Offers fun facts and simulated science for each celestial body.

πŸ”§ How we built it

We used:

  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for core development.
  • Canvas and animation libraries for space effects and transitions.
  • Carefully placed visual elements to simulate planet positioning around a central clock.
  • No external APIs β€” all calculations and visuals are built in.

⚠️ Challenges we ran into

  • Simulating realistic time dilation without compromising visual appeal.
  • Designing a central clock that balances education and aesthetics.
  • Creating dynamic background transitions for various cosmic scenes.

πŸ† Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • A fully responsive, immersive space-themed interface.
  • Accurate simulation of time variations across multiple celestial bodies.
  • A unique concept that combines science, design, and interactivity.

πŸ“š What we learned

  • Implementing astrophysics concepts like relativity and planetary time into UI/UX.
  • Enhancing performance while working with CSS animations and Canvas rendering.
  • Delivering a complex idea in a clean, user-friendly format.

🌠 What's next for Cosmic Clock

  • Add more celestial bodies like exoplanets and neutron stars.
  • Integrate audio narration or voice-based cosmic tours.
  • Expand into a VR-compatible space-time simulator.
  • Allow users to create their own "time map" of the universe.
