🍯 Inspiration
71% of women say a company’s inclusivity directly impacts whether they apply, but finding that info can take hours of digging. We built HiveHaven to fix that. It’s a platform that helps people easily find companies that support women through inclusive policies, benefits, and culture.
🌻 What it does
HiveHaven highlights companies with high Empowerment Scores, based on real data like maternity leave, anti-discrimination policies, leadership diversity, and employee reviews (even from Reddit). With HiveHaven, users can:
- Search any company and view a detailed breakdown
- See pros and cons of working there
- Filter results by company size, parental leave, and more
🛠️ How we built it
We used React to make a dynamic frontend and a MongoDB Atlas Cluster paired with Node.js for our backend database. The Gemini API powered realistic, AI-generated company data which we displayed through clean visuals in a user-friendly interface with the help of Bootstrap. We wrote custom prompts to grow our database, creating more company entries on the fly!
🍯 Challenges we ran into
- Balancing our Empowerment Score to reflect real values
- Ensuring reliable and accurate AI-generated data
- Making everything responsive while on a tight timeline
🌼 Accomplishments we’re proud of
- Built a full-stack product from scratch in 36 hours
- Developed an innovative solution to a real problem
- Created a scoring system that actually reflects inclusion and empowerment
- Designed a clean, welcoming experience that makes research easier
🍋 What we learned
We leveled up on:
- Frontend development in React
- Backend structuring with MongoDB
- Prompt engineering for consistent Gemini API outputs
- Collaboration under pressure, fast iteration, and teamwork
- LOTS of debugging and managing efficient version control through git
🌟 What’s next for HiveHaven
- Real-time web scraper to pull company data from trusted sources
- Lawsuit tracking for DEI and gender-related issues
- Advanced filters for digging into each Empowerment Score factor
- Contact form or live chat on company pages
- Expand to support POC, LGBTQ+, and other underrepresented communities
