Inspiration
In today’s workplace, professionals, from entrepreneurs and marketers to engineers, send hundreds of emails a week. For young professionals especially, writing polished, professional emails is time-consuming and stressful. Many rely on AI tools like ChatGPT, but the constant copying, pasting, and privacy risks slow them down. I wanted to create a tool that simplifies this process while keeping privacy and personalization at the center.
What it does
Inbox Pilot streamlines email communication directly from the command line. With just a few clicks, I can generate, customize, and send professional emails automatically. Unlike generic AI tools, Inbox Pilot uses a personal AI model, giving me full control, privacy, and the ability to fine-tune responses to my unique voice and workflow.
How I built it
I built Inbox Pilot as a command-line application that connects email sending functionality with a local personal AI model. The system handles prompt generation, formatting, and secure email transmission seamlessly, so everything from drafting to sending happens in one place.
Challenges I ran into
One challenge I faced was balancing ease of use with customization. I wanted the tool to be extremely simple for first-time users, but also flexible enough to adapt to unique email tones and preferences. Another challenge was ensuring data privacy, so I prioritized running the AI model locally instead of sending data to external servers.
Accomplishments that I’m proud of
I’m proud that Inbox Pilot creates a frictionless email workflow. I no longer need to copy and paste between tools, and I can send professional emails with confidence in just a few clicks. Building a tool that puts privacy first while still being convenient feels like a meaningful step toward making AI more personal and practical.
What I learned
I learned a lot about integrating AI models into everyday productivity tools. I also gained experience in handling user privacy, creating smooth command-line workflows, and building software that balances simplicity with flexibility.
What’s next for Inbox Pilot
Next, I want to expand Inbox Pilot with smart features like auto-detecting tone based on recipient, creating follow-up reminders, and offering templates for different business situations. I also plan to polish the user interface and eventually offer both a command-line and lightweight desktop app so more professionals can benefit from it.
