Inspiration
...SVCE customers and other energy consumers need a simple, rewarding app to give them the knowledge and motivation to change their energy usage. Many apps exist that focus on either the knowledge or motivations, but not many blend both. Also, none in the US market seem to leverage tree-planting as a gamified reward, to sequester carbon and leverage accelerating public/private interest in re-forestation. One partner in that record is Trillion Trees.
What it does
...Instagreen fills this app gap by merging user energy data, rewards via visualized energy bill savings and virtual/real tree planting, social media and competition networking among peers, and other features into a gamified social network. This encourages broader behavior change than previously possible. It also open up the app to wider audiences, to drive greater equity in this space. Users won't need to install costly/technical metering or other equipment, or have pre-existing knowledge of electric rates, reduction measures etc.
How I built it
API Gateway AWS Lambda RDS - Postgresql
Challenges I ran into
...Prioritizing the many ideas/potential drivers of behavior change into a simple, doable product.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
...Channeling those many ideas and potential directions into a product so quickly. Especially one that can drive electrification of buildings/transportation and energy efficiency along with healthy habits at scale.
What I learned
...Lots of time, ideation and group consensus-building are necessary to channel creative ideas into a finished product.
What's next for Instagreen
...Building out additional features, testing in small communities and potential high-adopter service areas, and seeking funding/social partners.
