Inspiration
In the meme world we have seen Rick-rolling gain popularity like nothing else, and we thought what if we can combine it with the same old music listening and make something interesting out of it, something involving instruments something that makes you mental.
What it does
It allows one to play music from their Spotify playlist, or play with instruments on the website with a small catch, i.e. the website randomly tries to Rick roll you. It can either be in your Spotify playlist or random popup or redirecting to the YouTube video.
How we built it
We first created a design file for the Project in Figma, and then we started the work on the Frontend Part and built it using tailwind CSS, JavaScript, Next JS, and then we used Spotify API to implement Login and get the existing music playlist of the user and then a feature to play it.
Challenges we ran into
Spotify allows us to play with the API only for Development purposes and not hobby or entertainment, hence we have to authorize each user manually. While recording video our recorder's mic stopped working in between.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the scale of the project and how we were able to make so much progress in a short span of time.
What we learned
We learned about Next JS as it was a new thing for most of the teammates, and the auth and API was a new learning experience as we usually stayed limited to the front end. We now know how to use the Spotify API to connect the Spotify account of a user and get their playlist data.
What's next for Instumen.tel
Next we are planning on adding more ways to rick roll our users and also allow them to play even more instruments.
