Inspiration
We wanted to create an application to help people track their mental health. We did not want to be bound by this and thus decided to expand the idea to any thoughts, experiences or a space to be utilized with imagination. Our app allows you to "Jot" down a great movie idea, a horrible date, or an amazing experience and you can increase the occurrences and view your data.

Gen Z nowadays log their moments on notes app or use sobriety apps to count. So we decided to create a logger app that creates the data for you.
What it does
Our app is a user-centric, personalized logger, tailored to your unique lifestyle. You can create categories for different aspects of your life, like 'Social' or 'Stupid Moments', and within these, tally your experiences—like the number of dates you've been on or times you've said something you regret. It's not just about counting; it's about reflecting on these instances in a light-hearted or serious manner, offering you a space to truly understand the journey you're on.
You can reflect on these moments by visiting the data page on the specific category you want to view.
How we built it
Fresh from completing our MERN stack training at the General Assembly Software Engineering BootCamp on March 15, we dove into creating this app using MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js. We embraced new tools like Bootstrap, GitFlow, Figma, and Postman for API testing, enhancing our coding journey.
Challenges we ran into
We went straight into creating a full-stack app a day after a final unit of learning MERN. The learning curve was that we had two days to code a full app with authorization, testing the API, and debug as a team a day after we finished our unit. We consumed a vast scale of knowledge and balanced a BootCamp project while also creating an app for this hackathon.
Overall, the challenges we ran into were time management and the learning curve of being new to this. However, our team was very strong in terms of team spirit and our level of hard work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of accomplishing authorization because we learned this lesson the day before the hackathon. We were able to create a register and log in successfully. We tested it through Postman and made it work on the front end!
What we learned
This hackathon taught us how to work as a team. In the BootCamp, we have been working alone and creating our own apps. This hackathon taught us the real-world situation where we will always be in a team, and need to communicate at all times and have meetings.
We agreed that this hackathon gave us an experience that brought us closer as a team and to be aware of what others are contributing. We learned that we are capable of working 13 hours a day with enthusiasm. My teammates and I realized how much we loved it because we spent the whole weekend coding with enjoyment.
Other than that, we learned a lot about debugging, practiced our CSS, and learned how to build a full-stack app within a short period.
What's next for JOT
We want to be able to clean up the CSS in terms of how we organize our wireframe. We will continue working on this app through react native and deploy it on the app store. Many of our friends of the new generation love to count their moments in life and share them on TikTok and this app would be very useful to them.
