Inspiration
We wanted a fast, social Lens game that feels competitive in seconds. Jungle + bumper chaos felt perfect: simple rules, funny outcomes, and instant “one more round” energy.
What it does
Jungle Thumble is a turn-based Snapchat Lens game where you face a friend in a jungle arena. Each turn you roll a ball to bump NPCs (and each other) off the stage to score. Most points wins.
How we built it
Built in Snapchat Lens Studio as a lightweight, mobile-first experience Turn-based system to keep matches fair and easy to understand Physics-based rolling + bumping so every round feels different Out-of-bounds / fall detection to trigger score + reset cleanly
Challenges we ran into
Lens size limit (~8MB): Optimized textures, models, audio, and effects to stay under the cap without losing polish Falling off with ball-based movement: Because the player is tied to a rolling ball, we had to prevent unfair accidental falls and tune physics so it feels fun, not frustrating Turn-based timing + state control: Ensured turns switch reliably (no double turns, no stuck states) while keeping gameplay snappy
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Delivered a competitive, friend-vs-friend experience in a quick Lens game Made the turn-based flow clear and fast so anyone can play instantly Tuned physics so matches feel chaotic but still fair Stayed within the ~8MB size constraint while keeping a polished jungle vibe
What we learned
In Lens games, optimization is part of the design Physics needs guardrails: tiny tweaks massively change fairness and fun Turn-based gameplay lives or dies on clean state management and resets
What's next for Jungle Thumble
More stages (bridges, platforms, moving hazards) Power-ups (bounce boost, shield, sticky roll) Friend challenges + faster rematch flow More NPC types with different weight/behavior for deeper strategy
