Inspiration
Computer science is a large field to participate in. We found that there are so many different branches and areas to immerse ourselves in, that it can be difficult to find people who think like and are interested in the same things as you. So, we set out to solve that problem!
What it does
Enables users to enter their interests and personal details in order to find others in the area similar to them; displays general locations and notifies users when a person of interest is in your area (this can be toggled, of course).
How we built it
We used React JS to connect to OpenStreetMaps API, using an SQL database to store our users' data and feed it back into the app for location displaying.
Challenges we ran into
Using a coding language and frameworks we were unfamiliar with! We always want to strive and improve ourselves by learning new things through hackathons, so we decided to build the project using React in order to familiarize ourselves more with web development. We connected it with our knowledge from our Windows App Programming class, where we've just began using SQL.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Coming together and building a full-stack app in under 24 hours! We've worked hard and long as a team to build this project, and we're excited to continue doing so in the future.
What we learned
Docker is your best friend...would save a lot of hassle from using SMSS!! Also learned how to use React to build a website and link it with our SQL database, securely storing and fetching user data.
What's next for MitraApp
Looking to fully integrate Mitra onto mobile devices, enabling maximum user convenience and accessing the full potential of our app.
