Inspiration

The idea for Mórfosis came from the everyday challenges of writing effectively and efficiently. Whether drafting emails, writing blog posts in multiple languages, or leaving comments on social media, I noticed how time-consuming and repetitive these tasks could be. I wanted to create a tool that streamlines these processes while enhancing the quality of writing, making it easier for anyone to communicate with confidence and clarity.

What it does

Mórfosis is a simple yet powerful Chrome extension that leverages Gemini Nano AI to transform the writing experience. With just a few clicks, users can:

  • Rewrite text to improve clarity and style.
  • Summarize long paragraphs or articles.
  • Translate text seamlessly into multiple languages.
  • Personalized writing suggestions for specific tasks like drafting emails, social media comments, creating examples, or analogies—all with just one click.
  • Interact with an integrated chat, which not only answers questions, generates ideas, or provides feedback but can also analyze the web page the user is currently visiting.
  • Automatically replace selected text in text areas or editors (e.g., WordPress) with AI-generated content for greater convenience.
  • Execute custom recipes (user-configured prompt sequences) directly in text areas or editable elements, such as a WordPress editor, using the Control + / shortcut for advanced workflows.
  • Quickly access the chat with Control + M to interact directly with the AI assistant.
  • Run prompts directly in text areas or editable elements using Control + J, streamlining the writing process.
  • Configure the extension to disable the menu for a cleaner browsing experience.

All these features are designed to integrate directly into the browser, making writing faster, simpler, and more effective.

How we built it

I built Mórfosis using modern web development technologies:

  • HTML and JavaScript for the core functionality and user interface.
  • Tailwind CSS for creating a clean and professional design.
  • Gemini Nano AI for implementing advanced writing features directly in the browser, without requiring a backend.

The project was guided by my daily experience with various writing tools, which helped me focus on making Mórfosis intuitive and enjoyable for users.

Challenges we ran into

Building Mórfosis presented several challenges:

  1. Learning Curve: Developing a Chrome extension was entirely new to me, requiring research and experimentation.
  2. Efficient Integration: Adapting Gemini Nano AI to provide seamless functionality within the browser environment was a key challenge.
  3. User Experience: Balancing powerful features with a simple and user-friendly interface required multiple iterations.
  4. Time Constraints: The hackathon's limited timeframe pushed me to prioritize features and refine the extension quickly.

  4. Enhanced Language Support: Expand the AI's capabilities to better handle nuanced expressions and cultural contexts in different languages.
  5. AI-Driven Suggestions: Offer contextual suggestions for tone, style, or structure based on the purpose of the text (e.g., formal, persuasive, or conversational).
  6. Integration with Other Platforms: Make Mórfosis compatible with popular apps like Google Docs, etc.
  7. User Analytics: Provide users with insights on their writing patterns and progress, helping them improve over time.
