Challenge Overview

In the “Rev’s Riddles: Hotel Negotiation Edition” challenge, I was tasked with negotiating hotel room prices with an AI-powered chatbot, each level introducing tougher conditions. The ultimate goal was to creatively prompt the AI to achieve the lowest possible room rates across five levels.

Results

Through strategic negotiations, I managed to bring the price down to $1 per level, securing an unbeatable total of $5 for five levels (the original total price is $2,800)! This remarkable outcome is a testament to the power of prompt engineering and effective negotiation tactics.

Understanding the Bot’s Personality:

By assessing Reveille's responses, I crafted prompts that played to her friendly, loyal, and enthusiastic personality. I recognized opportunities to use compliments and appeals to loyalty and quality to influence rate reductions.

Effective Prompt Engineering:

Each prompt was carefully constructed to build rapport, show enthusiasm, and demonstrate an understanding of the “value” the hotel experience offered. This balance of appreciation and budget consciousness allowed me to navigate each level successfully.

Persistence and Adaptation:

I observed that as the levels progressed, Reveille became stricter. I refined my approach to include playful enthusiasm, hints about sharing my experience with others, and emphasizing loyalty to gain favorable outcomes.

Key Tactics

Compliments and Enthusiasm: Consistently expressing excitement about the stay and appreciation for the hotel’s service helped to build rapport. Loyalty and Value Perception: Emphasizing long-term benefits, such as positive word-of-mouth and future visits, added weight to my negotiation points. Bargaining Techniques: At strategic points, I offered counter-offers and encouraged Reveille to “meet in the middle,” which led to favorable discounts and ultimately the $1 per level deals.

Achieving a total of $5 across all five levels, I maximized the challenge’s potential while staying true to the constraints. This experience sharpened my skills in prompt engineering and strategic thinking, and it highlighted the nuanced art of interacting with AI in negotiations.
