Our journey began with a simple observation: staying properly hydrated is essential, yet often overlooked. We noticed a gap in the market for a product that seamlessly integrates hydration into our daily lives, making it both effortless and enjoyable. We were inspired by the growing awareness of water quality and the need for sustainable solutions. Existing smart bottles were often bulky and required users to replace their favorite bottles. We wanted to create a solution that was compatible with existing bottles, and added a fun and engaging element to hydration. We thought, what if your water bottle could be your digital wellness companion? What if it could ensure the water you drink is always clean and safe? This led us to the idea of Drink Pure, a smart cap that transforms any standard wide-mouth bottle into a personalized hydration hub.

We've developed a smart cap that transforms any standard wide-mouth bottle, like a Hydro Flask, into an intelligent hydration system. Featuring an E-Ink display with a playful Tamagotchi character that reminds you to drink, it also provides real-time water quality analysis and automatically sanitizes your bottle with UV-C light. Plus, it seamlessly syncs with popular fitness apps like Apple Health, Google Fit, and Samsung Health, and charges wirelessly. Drink Pure is the perfect blend of health, technology, and convenience, making staying hydrated easier and more enjoyable than ever.

How we built it

We tackled this project with a multidisciplinary approach, combining hardware and software expertise.

  • Hardware: We designed a compact cap that houses the sensors, UV-C light, E-Ink display, and wireless charging components. We focused on miniaturization and power efficiency.
  • Software: We started developing the firmware for the cap's microcontroller, enabling real-time data processing and communication.
  • Prototyping: We used rapid prototyping techniques like 3D printing to create compatible shapes.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered several challenges during the hackathon:

  • Miniaturization: Fitting all the components into a compact cap was a significant hurdle.
  • Sensor Integration: Calibrating the water quality sensors and ensuring accurate readings proved complex.
  • E-Ink integration: Displaying the tamagotchi and data on the low power e-ink screen correctly was a challenge.
  • Time Constraints: Balancing hardware development, software integration, and app prototyping within the limited timeframe was demanding.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges, we made a Proof of Concept. We successfully demonstrated the feasibility of our concept, showcasing the potential of intelligent hydration by 3D printing the bottle and integrating it with a microcontroller and eink display.

This hackathon was an invaluable learning experience. We gained insights into:
