Inspiration
We've all been there - knowing we should start a task but pushing it off "just one more day." The problem is, we never see the real cost of that delay until it's too late. We wanted to create a tool that quantifies procrastination in concrete terms - not to shame people, but to help them make informed decisions about when to actually tackle their tasks.
What does it do
The Procrastination App is a smart task scheduler that calculates the true cost of delaying work. Users input their task details, and the app generates multiple scheduling options. Each option shows the stress accumulation level and time required to complete assignments
Instead of vague guilt, users get hard numbers that help them decide: "Should I do this now or later?" It transforms procrastination from an invisible habit into a visible, measurable decision.
How we built it
Frontend: React Calculations: Custom algorithms that factor in time decay, stress multipliers, and quality degradation curves Design: Focused on visual impact with color-coded stress levels and animated counters to make the data hit home
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was creating realistic cost formulas. How do you quantify stress? How does work quality degrade over time? We had to balance mathematical accuracy with practical realism - making sure the calculations felt true to real-world procrastination patterns. We also struggled with making the UI impactful without being overwhelming, since we're presenting a lot of data at once.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Proud of building a fully functional web app in just one hour Created calculation algorithms that actually reflect real procrastination costs Designed an interface that makes abstract concepts (stress) visually clear Made something that's both useful and memorable - people will actually want to use this
What we learned:
We learned how to rapidly prototype under extreme time constraints, prioritizing core features over nice-to-haves. We also discovered that good UX isn't about adding features - it's about making complex information instantly understandable. Finally, we learned that the best productivity tools don't just organize your tasks; they change how you think about time and priorities.
What's next for Procrastination App
Task tracking: Save multiple tasks and track procrastination patterns over time Calendar integration: Sync with Google Calendar to automatically block time for tasks AI scheduling: Use AI to suggest optimal task timing based on your energy patterns and habits Social accountability: Share your procrastination stats with friends for motivation Browser extension: Quick-add tasks from any website and get instant cost calculations
