Inspiration

Metanoia is a journey of changing someone's mind, heart, or self

Metanoia helps you plan your day based on your location by suggesting hidden gems and whole in the wall events that support small local businesses that aren’t well known. Our inspiration came from our frustration with the amount of time that's wasted looking for things to do and places to see. This led us to create Metanoia which helps you see your city through rose-tinted glasses!

In order to create and customize your plan for the day using nearby locations, you will first need to send a postcard to someone from our list of organizations to help make someone's day just like Metanoia could help make yours :)

What it does

We help you see your city through rose-tinted glasses.

Discover Hidden Gems in Your city Metanoia allows you to discover new places within your city, locate limited-time events around you and plan your day out without having to spend hours in front of a screen.

Support Local Businesses It recommends local cafés, restaurants, shops, and events that help you have the perfect day all while helping your community!

Make someone smile Send someone (from our list of organizations) a postcard with a picture you take during your day and a simple heartfelt message, either from the options available or one of your own!

How we built it

We've created the presentation using Canva and the prototype using Figma

Challenges we ran into

We initially wanted to create the app from scratch and incorporate code from radar.io to implement geofencing to our app. However, since we don't have any experience with creating apps and are beginner programmers, it would take us longer than the time available in this hackathon to fully develop this app in a way that would communicate the full scope of our idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of the end product and the teamwork that it needed to be created. We’re proud to have learned new concepts through the research for our project. We look forward to being able to bring this idea into reality through code soon!

What we learned

In our initial attempts to implement radar.io technology, we learned about geofencing and geocoding and the various applications of such technology in delivery systems, marketing algorithms, as well as location-finding systems.

What's next for Metanoia

We want to code the app and implement geofencing by radar.io to facilitate location detection and to allow Metanoia to suggest nearby places and events. We also want to add an accessibility feature that would help people who are visually impaired to use our app.
