Inspiration
We were inspired by the communication gap between surgeons and patients who do not speak the same language, which can lead to confusion, stress, and even mistakes during recovery.
What does it do?
SurgiConnect is a web application that allows surgeons and patients to communicate through real time messaging, image and file sharing, automatic translation, and patient status tracking.
How we built it
We built SurgiConnect using React for the frontend, Node.js for the backend, and we tried to use Firebase for the database. We also integrated external APIs to support key features like translation.
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time participating in a hackathon, so we faced challenges with time management, learning new tools quickly, and coordinating as a team under pressure.
Accomplishments we’re proud of
We are especially proud of successfully integrating the Google Cloud Translation API, which allows messages to be translated and makes communication more accessible.
What we learned
We learned how to collaborate effectively as a team, work under tight deadlines, and quickly adapt to new technologies while building a functional project.
What’s next for SurgiConnect
In the future, we plan to support more languages and expand the platform to other healthcare providers such as nurses, doctors, dentists, and even veterinary services.
