Help me buy my house! I am a high school science teacher who moved into my rental house six summers ago after a major life change. My girls and I have loved living here, as it is less than 5 minutes to the school where I teach and the girls attend. Recently, my landlord has been talking about wanting to sell my house. As a single mom and high school teacher, I've tried all the traditional ways of getting a loan, including trying to get a teacher in the neighborhood grant. I make just enough to not qualify for grants and not enough to secure a loan on my own in this economy. My landlord has been great. He has not raised my rent in the last two years and has taken great care of the house. However, he is getting older and is looking to get out of the rental business completely and retire. He is willing to sell the house to me at a lower price since I have been a great tenant for the last 6 years. He is also wanting to do this quickly.
Currently, my rent is $1450 a month. I would love to be able to raise the entire cash amount for the house, even if it is $1, $2, or $5 at a time. I am currently trying to get him a down payment so I can let him know that I am truly interested in buying this house. I would love to raise the full amount plus a small extra amount, as the carpet needs replacement. It has the cheapest rental carpet, which was put in when it was flipped before my landlord bought it. We also found out this summer that a new roof will be needed before winter. It also wouldn't be a bad thing to not have a rent/mortgage payment with two teenage girls getting ready to go off to college in the next 3 years. Otherwise, this house has loved me and my children, and we cannot imagine living anywhere else. So, will you help me buy my house and not have to deal with a new landlord who might not be as nice as the one I've had for the last 6 years? Thanks!
Funds will be used in this order:
Purchase the house.
Replace the roof.
Replace the carpet.
