Actually, people love to work hard - Anil Dash
It is genuinely one of the best feelings in life to be completely exhausted while sitting next to someone who’s been right beside you, shoulder to shoulder, fighting to accomplish the same goal. I’ve known that to be true whether we were launching a new company into the world, campaigning to get a candidate we believed in elected, organizing to rally people around an issue, raising funds for an important cause, or even just trying to get people together for a big event or party.

Why BYD’s R&D engine is terrifying Western automakers - Fast Company
The Blade Battery was born from grief. It was engineered by people who had watched their own lab burn, and who decided, with a resolve that borders on the religious, that it would never happen again.

Password Protecting Static Site Content with WASM
I use static site generators for my sites. I call out to external APIs to do anything dynamic. The exception is password protection. I'd always thought that needed to be done dynamically on a site's host server. I realized with WASM that's not the case. Files can be encrypted and served statically with a WASM process providing decryption directly on the front end.

The Hacker News tarpit
You can't build Place People Go as a feature. It's a thing that happened over time, through a specific and unrepeatable sequence of events, most of which were not planned and some of which were just luck.

500 applications, 0 callbacks
Once you accept that the front door is pointless, you get so much time back. Yeah, you still need a gig, we get it. But what if, instead of applying all your creativity and energy to the attempt to pass some invisible set of hurdles, or to writing exactly the right tone of follow up email when an interviewer ghosts you, what if instead of all that you just abandon the front door entirely and find another way? That other way, by the way, is human connection. OMG stop. Don't roll your eyes. You hate networking. It's so transactional and fake. It's all small talk and you hate small talk. Yes yes yes. We hate it, too. That's not what we mean. We mean that if the Applicant Tracking System Jello isn't where the hiring managers are any more, then you should start spending time elsewhere.

Mr. Chatterbox, or, The Modern Prometheus
A few days ago, I posted about a personal project that I've been working on for the last few weeks: Mr. Chatterbox, a chatbot trained from scratch on Victorian-era literature. I have to admit, I was totally blown away (and a little frightened!) by the reception. Whenever I post about personal projects, I'm used to them being politely ignored. The fact that this wasn't ignored surprised me mightily. I also received lots of questions about how Mr. Chatterbox had been trained, what tools I have used, whether he had been really trained from scratch or just fine-tuned, etc. I was only half-prepared to answer these queries because I was not expecting this to receive any attention! So, with what free time I had on an otherwise-busy family weekend, I sat down to write this narrative documentation.

Project Code Rush - The Beginnings of Netscape / Mozilla Documentary - YouTube
Code Rush is a documentary following the lives of a group of Netscape engineers in Silicon Valley. It covers Netscape's last year as an independent company, from their announcement of the Mozilla open source project until their acquisition by AOL. It particularly focuses on the last minute rush to make the Mozilla source code ready for release by the deadline of March 31 1998, and the impact on the engineers' lives and families as they attempt to save the company from ruin.

2026 has been the most pivotal year in my career… and it's only March
A small part of me is sad at what is lost. A bigger part is excited about the possibilities of the future. I’ve always had more ideas than time or energy to pursue them. With AI at my command, the problem changes shape. I can comfortably take on complexity from which I previously shied away, and I can take a shot at any idea sufficiently formed in my mind to prompt an AI — a whole skill of its own that I’m actively developing.

Man, they get such a variety of food on the Artemis 2 mission. Personally, I'd be fine with just, like, 10 days of burrito bowl packets. Maybe the rest of the crew would object - to me, not the food. #space #artemis2 #nasa

When this Artemis 2 mission is complete, I want like a picture frame in my office with a video screen permanently replaying the live stream lunar approach and flyby on loop so I can just glance up at it from time to time and see the moon get bigger #space #artemis2

They keep mentioning there are gopro cameras mounted on the solar arrays of Artemis II. And I'm just like, oof, how many hours of meetings & head-scratching did that take? How to power them, how to get data from them, will they physically interfere with the arrays? Not like slapping a gopro on a bike helmet #space #nasa #artemis2
