This brings some good and bad changes to modpack platforms, along with various fixes.
We’ve added Modrinth as a directly supported modpack platform. It’s nice, and the list of packs available from it is slowly growing.
We can no longer directly import FTB modpacks from the FTB platform. Instead, this has been replaced by import from the FTB App. You can get FTB modpacks through the FTB App and then import them into MultiMC using the FTB App Import page in Add Instance.

Hello, you may have seen all kinds of chaos and misunderstanding related to a security bug in log4j that can allow attackers to run code on your machine.
All versions of the game that use an unpatched or old version of the log4j library are susceptible to attacks - if you are running a server, or are connecting to one.
Single player should be safe.
NOTE: log4j has been further updated to 2.

This further refines Microsoft account support, along with small fixes related to modpack platforms and Java runtime detection.
It’s also been 10 years since the first release of MultiMC. All background cats are now ready to party! What comes next, in no particular order:
Complete rework of Java runtime management. With the release of 1.18, the game now requires even more different versions of the JRE, and a solution is required.

What comes next:

After roughly one year of maintenance and development work by various contributors, we’re just calling it a good time to release.
What got added since the last time? Quite a bit! But in general, this is more of a spring cleaning before the major changes that we need to make come in.
What comes next after this:
Rework of the account system to add support for Microsoft accounts Rework of the Mojang accounts to allow them to co-exist with Microsoft accounts General fixes to dealing with account state and skins – currently, we use a third party service to fetch skins and we only do it on application start.

When it comes to the future of MultiMC, it is practically set in stone for the next few months. Minecraft 1.13 is coming, along with some big change in Forge and modding in general. For that, MultiMC will have to adapt.
Part of that will be documenting the current instance and metadata formats, further streamlining of those formats and then improvements necessary to fully support anything and everything that comes along.

This is especially the case on Windows. If you already updated to 0.4.8, you will need to do a manual update, or use a wired connection to do the update.

If you’ve used the Internet in the last couple of days, you’ve probably heard about the Heartbleed vulnerability. To keep it short, there’s a vulnerability in a bunch of versions of OpenSSL that make it possible for servers or clients to make their counterparts expose system memory in 64kB blocks.
MultiMC on Windows ships with a version that’s vulnerable. As far as we can tell, the only people that could use the exploit are servers that we connect to, which are Mojang and ourselves.

Today, I am happy to announce MultiMC 6, a new, reimagined version of MultiMC written in the best language ever, Haskell. MultiMC 6 will be far more stable and faster than MultiMC 5, and will make your Minecraft launching experience much more enjoyable. Furthermore, we’ve decided that MultiMC’s scope shouldn’t be limited to simply launching Minecraft. That’s why we’ll be adding support for several more games to MultiMC, such as:

We’re excited to announce that the first official MultiMC 5 release is now available on the homepage!
Whilst the builds have been stable enough for general use for a while now, we know that having the “stable” label can be important for people’s peace of mind, especially around their beloved instances. There’s still a few things that we’d like to improve on and add, but we think that all of the core functionality is there.

I thought I’d write a blog post discussing the current state of MultiMC, MultiMC 5 development progress, and the future.
First, we have a new, dedicated website, and you’re looking at it! The idea was to keep it clean, simple and functional, and I think we’ve achieved that. Things might still change a bit but the framework is there for us to use.
So who is “us”? peterix and myself (@Drayshak) are pushing development of MultiMC 5 forward, I’ve been working on the website, Forkk is helping with infrastructure, and there have been notable contributions to the project from @TakSuyu, Kilobyte and Orochimarufan.
