Lost in the Met

What a visit to a landmark museum meant to a seventh grader in 2000.

  1. Yesterday longtime Mets radio broadcaster Howie Rose announced his retirement at the end of the 2026 season.

Howie’s encyclopedic knowledge of Mets history makes listening to the radio broadcasts so fun. He grew up in Queens alongside the team, after all. After almost 40 years with the Mets, and behind the mic in the radio booth since 1995, its going to be hard imagining the home broadcasts or postseason without him.

In yesterday’s press conference, Howie talked at length about the Mets in the 2024 postseason when asked about memorable calls and career highlights. You can hear how much that 2024 season meant to him as announcer and a fan in a monologue he delivered over the last inning of the 2024 NLCS.

I’m glad Howie’s going out on his own terms, but selfishly I hope the Mets put him to work in October this year. Here’s to an amazin’ career and wishing him a happy retirement.
