Our leadership team
David E. Rutter
David founded R3 in 2015 and in his role of Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the strategic direction of R3. With 40 years of experience leading some of Wall Street’s top institutions, David is a longtime creative thought leader in financial markets and innovation and has played a significant role in the adoption of electronic trading in the global OTC derivatives industry.
Richard G. Brown
Richard is the Founding Chief Technology Officer at R3 and is a leading authority on distributed ledger systems. Before joining R3, he spent nearly 15 years at IBM, serving as Executive Architect for Banking and Financial Markets innovation. Richard is a Chartered Engineer and holds an MBA from Warwick Business School and a first-class degree in Mathematics from Trinity College, Cambridge.
Todd McDonald
Todd co-founded R3 in 2015 and was one of the first to uncover the promise of blockchain technology for the financial services industry and beyond. Todd co-founded The Global Digital Finance (GDF) to create an industry code for sustainable crypto innovation. Prior to R3, he was Managing Director at Standard Chartered Bank, holding roles like Global Head of Electronic FX Trading. He holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from Colgate University.
Nick Horsley
Nick is responsible for managing the CEO’s office, working with David Rutter to set and execute against R3’s strategy, and drive performance across the business. Before R3, Nick was COO of a health tech startup, leading operations, sales, and product, and launching to 20,000 customers across 50 countries. He previously worked in Finance and Management Consulting in London and holds an economics degree from Manchester University.
Digby Try
Digby Try has a track record of over 25 years in senior management roles in the payments, fintech and Digital Assets sectors in both the UK and US, with specific responsibility for revenue and growth. Before joining R3 Labs, he was Chief Revenue Office (CRO) at Coincover, the market leading blockchain protection company. Prior to that he was Co-founder and CRO of AQRU Plc (formerly Dispersion Holdings Plc), the first listed DeFi investment vehicle in the UK. His previous experience includes seven years as Vice President of Sales EMEA for Currencycloud, which was subsequently acquired by Visa for $1bln and Head of Global Sales at OpenPayd, a technology-led banking and payments platform for businesses, where he specialised in delivering fiat banking rails to the crypto industry and worked alongside many of the world’s leading exchanges.
