BTS The 5th Album 'ARIRANG' (Rooted in Korea Ver.) (CD)

BTS

BTS is back! ARIRANG is a welcome return after a three year pause from the group. Named after an iconic Korean folk song, the album centers the band's experience and identity as Koreans while tackling topics of longing and intense love. There's fervor, frustration, and passion in these songs...and of course, they're irresistible bops. A glossy, vibrant, dynamic record from one of the most epic and exciting bands in the biz.

How Sad, How Lovely [Silver Vinyl +7"] (LP)

Connie Converse

Connie Converse, the 1950s singer/songwriter who mysteriously disappeared in 1974, was commemorated in 2009 with the compilation, How Sad, How Lovely . Now Third Man Records has reissued this collection of her charming folk songs with sweet alto vocals. The reissue features 20 tracks and includes the previously unreleased “House” and a new remix of “Playboy of the Western World” by Dirick Cummins. How Sad, How Lovely is a gentle set with melancholy moments, cheerful lilts, and clever lyrics. Highlights include the swooning "Roving Woman" and the lively "Down This Road," which, like many of these, sounds like a familiar old folk classic.

It's The Long Goodbye [Yellow Vinyl] (LP)

The Twilight Sad

The Twilight Sad return with a shimmering, bigger than life, passionate album. It's The Long Goodbye tackles themes of crisis and loss. It's raw and questioning, burning with anger, confusion, and longing. The sound calls to mind the swirling melancholia and urgency of '80s post-punk acts and wouldn't you know it? The Cure's Robert Smith plays guitar on "Waiting For The Phone Call." It's The Long Goodbye is remarkable. A bold, gripping, deeply moving album that finds the beauty that often walks hand in hand with pain and despair.

Ö [Indie Exclusive] (LP)

Fcukers

Fcukers make their debut with Ö , out on Ninja Tune. There's been a lot of buzz around this indie house record and from the very first track you'll see why: the album is euphoric, full speed ahead, gritty and sexy. Heavy basslines, heady melodies, and languid, seductive vocals make you feel like you're on a sweaty packed dance floor in a NYC basement. Ö creates a sense of wild abandon and pure joy that it seems like so many of us have been needing.

Blue Gum Way [Opaque Sky Blue Vinyl] (LP)

GUM

GUM is the project of Australian artist Jay Watson, co-founder of Pond and touring member of Tame Impala. His latest offering as GUM, Blue Gum Way , feels akin to those beloved psych rock-inflected projects, with a slightly more experimental, evocative bent. Hazy, dreamy, with an underlying surge of melancholy, these songs blend jazz and psych with a sense of the cinematic. A heady, spell-binding album, Blue Gum Way will make you pause what you're doing and pay attention.

In Search Of A Revival [Sky Blue Vinyl] (LP)

The Olympians

The Olympians are back. In Search of a Revival is a fitting name for this evocative, retro-flavored album; after all, it has been almost a decade since the Daptones act's last album, time which maestro Toby Pazner spent raising a family and touring as a keyboard player with and writing songs alongside Lee Fields. It was time well-spent. Revival is lush and heady, calling to mind vintage film soundtracks, swingin' lounge sounds, and a cosmic fusion of jazz and R&B. A dazzling and deeply enjoyable album.

My Voice (CD)

Laura Chavez

Laura Chavez truly does make the guitar sing. My Voice is the much-anticipated instrumental solo debut from the guitarist, singer-songwriter, and producer and it's easy to see where the title comes from. Chavez's playing is expressive, evocative, and red hot. The tracks practically sizzle with all the emotion and excitement packed into these soulful R&B and blues numbers. My Voice has the feeling of a classic: timeless, beloved, and brilliant.

Leather Temple [Yellow Vinyl] (LP)

Carpenter Brut

Carpenter Brut's Leather Temple is deliciously dystopian. The final installment in his Leather trilogy, the album brings the ferocity of metal to the moodiness of synthwave. These dark, tumultuous, towering tracks feel like the soundtrack to the most intense '80s sci-fi or fantasy film you've ever seen. Leather Temple is imaginative and compelling, an atmospheric and epic album that's in a class all its own.

Hurts Like Hell [Clear Yellow Vinyl] (LP)

Charlotte Cornfield

Canadian singer/songwriter Charlotte Cornfield makes her Merge Records debut with Hurts Like Hell . Her sixth studio album, it offers country/folk rock with gentle melodies and lyrics that reflect on relationships and her personal growth since having a daughter. At times Cornfield evokes Courtney Barnett or Lucinda Williams - one of her influences - especially with her twangy, straight-forward vocals. The sparse, delicate track "Living With It" features Feist on guest vocals in the airy chorus.

Vendrán Suaves Lluvias [Clear Vinyl] (LP)

Silvana Estrada

Silvana Estrada's Vendrán Suaves Lluvias is swoon-worthy. Cinematic and romantic, the album blends jazz, lounge, indie pop, and both traditional English and Latin American folk styles. The title translates to "Soft Rains Will Come" and that's a good encapsulation of the vibe of this album: gentle, strong, joyful, and optimistic. A quietly powerful, defiantly hopeful, absolutely lovely album.

The Former Site Of [Orange & Red Marble Vinyl] (LP)

The New Pornographers

There's a certain magic in each album from The New Pornographers. The Former Site Of delivers more exquisitely-constructed indie rock, with gorgeous harmonies, heady guitar riffs, and ear worm choruses. The band's storytelling has never been finer, with each track chronicling moments of personal and and global extremes in vignettes that feel pulled straight from literary fiction. Come for the infectious melodies, stay for the deeper dive into human behavior. This one is packed with hit after hit.

Moments Before The Wind (CD)

Free Throw

Free Throw hits the spot for fans of melodic emo-punk. Moments Before The Wind is their latest, a record that's introspective and cathartic, catchy and emotionally affecting. The band wrote this one based around the concept of liminality: being between two places, both in a physical sense, as well as within your mind. The thematic elements are the beating heart of the album while the driving guitars, intense emotion, and pop sensibilities push the whole thing forward. If you dig classic emo and pop-punk, you'll dig this.
