  • A fun experiment of Technology vs Fruit when gravity gets involved!

If you've never seen a UPS thrown off of a bridge along with a watermelon, here's your chance: https://lnkd.in/eD4M-dGz Our friends over at Spiceworks Ziff Davis had a fun little Tech vs. Fruit section in their latest video/podcast: Spring Break Fix Livestream - Relaxation Not Found I'm a big fan of throwing things off of buildings and bridges (with the proper safety precautions) so there's no need to apologize Jeff Grettler. However, I did notice that it was only the UPS electronics that got smashed. Next time, I recommend including batteries (they're heavier). #EatonGetsIT #Spiceworks #IT #SysAdmin #Watermelon

This gem with Spiceworks co-founder Francis Sullivan took me down memory lane of some of the simple HI (Human Inspo)-oriented things that helped us make Spiceworks such a celebrated and award-winning Austin workplace culture - which translated into also being an award-winning brand (…our users even got TATTOOS!): https://lnkd.in/gBZj95QT One (AI-proof) secret Francis references (that I guarantee will energize your culture and differentiate your brand - esp at a time when hybrid work has made feeling truly connected and inspired at work tougher than ever): ***Find practical, relevant, and/or creative ways to CONNECT everyone on your team with your customers – person to person - as HUMANS.*** Across companies, I consult with on brand engagements, the #1 biggest MISS I see over and over….and over (esp with you oh-so-manically "efficient" PE companies...🤓 ) is that they do not make a true effort to regularly curate simple 1:1 interaction between their employees and customers - as human beings. They claim it's anywhere from unnecessary to inefficient to cost-prohibitive (i.e. our devs don’t like to talk to people…our finance folks don’t need to talk to customers, we can’t have everyone at our user conference, blah-blah-blah). But if you want a beloved brand – then that (and any myopic focus on just a spreadsheet) is short-sighted and just plain WRONG...especially if you know how to wield thoughtfulness and CREATIVITY as your greatest currency. B/c psst! They're both organic, renewable resources right there in the hearts and brains 🧠 of your employees...that'll pay off in eNPS & NPS-spades. Why? Having encounters with other humans releases a neurotransmitter called oxytocin in our brains - which is the bonding chemical that floods the brain the first time a parent holds their baby. It's also released in different doses when we hug someone, and even we share a personal convo with another person - be it a pleasant exchange with the barista or convo with a customer about how our product helped them do something in their day. Oxytocin is what fosters a sense of connection, appreciation, collaboration, and loyalty. So, when Francis reflected on how devs would regularly ask users what features they wanted/liked most? And go to our user-conference to hear firsthand feedback/praise for the features they’d built? Those are two easy examples of HI, oxytocin-generating touchpoints that can get your worker bees INSPIRED to sip and make more KoolAid 🧡 ...and there are countless free and easy ways to do this across all your employees, in a way that will help you: >Retain employees (...b/c it infuses them with a sense of purpose) > Attract top talent (…b/c your people will refer their brightest peeps) >Build brand love (b/c meeting employees humanizes your brand). There’s no AI in HUMAN…but, there certainly is in Kool-Aid! So I’ll leave you and your spreadsheets to ponder that (as you ask AI how to keep your brand beloved). 🫶

  • Why "𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴" 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 is the 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 In the world of 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, the most vital components are often the most invisible. We all notice when a 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀, but how often do we appreciate the 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 and 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 that run flawlessly 24/7? According to a recent CNET 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆, two-thirds of people say a single 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 can derail their entire lives. This highlights the incredible importance of the 𝗜𝗧 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 and "𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻" 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 that keep our modern world spinning. It’s time we move beyond noticing IT only when things go wrong and start appreciating the 𝗜𝗧 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 that makes "𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹" possible. With the Masters teeing off on Thursday, I’ve been thinking about an unexpected parallel… Running a pristine golf course (like Bushwood) and operating a high-performance data center aren’t all that different. Here’s my front 9 on a sunny Friday afternoon scorecard: 1. Heat will make or break you Managing heat—sun exposure, turf stress, even club performance—can be the difference between a smooth round and total meltdown. Data center thermal management is mission critical to performance, efficiency and longevity. With Eaton’s acquisition of Boyd Thermal, we’re doubling down on advanced thermal strategies—because whether it’s keeping greens playable or chips cool, controlling heat is like a winning putt: https://lnkd.in/eHt7wKkp 2. Rules, rituals and respect for the game From pace‑of‑play to access control, there’s a reason procedures exist. The good ones follow them. The great ones believe in them. Be the ball. 3. Meticulous turf vs. meticulous infrastructure Championship greens and Tier III+ environments are both built on discipline, preventive care and zero tolerance for “we’ll fix it later.” 4. Maintenance never stops Greens don’t manicure themselves—and neither does infrastructure. Preventive maintenance is the quiet hero behind every smooth round (or seamless uptime report). 5. Conditions matter…a lot Golfers obsess over wind, moisture and turf speed. Data center managers obsess over temperature, humidity and airflow with the same intensity. 6. Weather (and entropy) are undefeated Heat, humidity, storms, your arch rival sinking your new yacht… One way or another, something’s always trying to disrupt the plan. Great operators plan for it long before it shows up. 7. Sunday pressure is very real Final round at Augusta. Peak load during a major event. Same requirements: Calm teams, rehearsed processes and no hero shots. “I bet ya slice into the woods! A hundred bucks!” 8. Tiny details decide the outcome A missed patch of turf turns into a bad lie. A missed firmware update turns into… well, a much worse day. Details matter. Ignore the details and you might find yourself battling the gopher. 9. Customers are the priority “I want a hot dog. I want a milkshake. I want potato chips. I want...” As much as you want to channel your inner Judge Smalls and say, “You'll get nothing, and like it!” you’ll need to find creative ways to deal with difficult customers. Here’s to smooth swings, stable platforms and no varmints in the control room. Whether you favor the green jacket or a Happy Gilmore jersey, enjoy Masters week. #DataCenter #Colocation #TheMasters #ITInfrastructure #Golf #EatonGetsIT

  • 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙭 recently celebrated its 27th anniversary, so for Friday's Daily Challenge, we ask: In The Matrix Reloaded, Trinity hacks into a city’s power grid using a real-world security tool. In a rare moment of Hollywood accuracy, she uses it to identify a vulnerable SSH service. Which tool is featured in this iconic scene?

  • What happens when you stop giving 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 tickets and start giving them 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽? In a recent clip from our 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, former 𝗖𝗧𝗢 and 𝗖𝗼-𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 of 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀, Francis Sullivan discusses an internal "𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻" designed to give every developer the experience of being their own founder. The goal? Develop a feature or product that is 100% ready to ship. This level of 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 doesn't just build better 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀; it builds better 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀.
