As the U.S. works to revitalize its semiconductor manufacturing, research and workforce training, UC San Diego researchers are taking the lead to help fulfill this mission. Andrew Kahng is part of several major national initiatives that together are transforming how future engineers learn to design and build computer chips. His work is helping UC San Diego become a driving force in the nation’s growing semiconductor innovation ecosystem. Kahng, a world-renowned leader in chip design education and research, is advancing and democratizing chip design education, open-source tools and next-generation microelectronics through OpenROAD, the National Science Foundation (NSF) Chip Design Hub, and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)'s Next-Generation Microelectronics Manufacturing (NGMM) program. 🔱 TRITON GIVING DAY IS TOMORROW, APRIL 30 🔱 Unlock possibility at UC San Diego with a gift to ECE’s Excellence and Innovation fund! https://lnkd.in/gpbx-KaN - The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) combines cutting-edge research with innovative teaching. What ECE students learn in the classroom is directly applied in real-world scenarios, providing the skills that students need to be successful in industry and internships, and we have received recognition for innovation in academic programming. ECE ranks 14th in the nation for its programs in electrical / electronic / communications engineering (US News and World Report Ranking of Best Engineering Schools, published April 2025). Our students benefit from access to facilities such as the ECE MakerSpace and Envision Maker Studio, and receive ample free tutoring through our dedicated Tutoring Center. Through our Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP), students at all levels get involved in research projects under the mentorship of renowned faculty. Our faculty and students are making groundbreaking discoveries in areas such as brain sensors and implants, robotic surgery, AI, RF MEMS, smartphone blood pressure monitoring, electro-optic modulators, ultra-low power Internet-of-Things devices, 5G/6G wireless communications and even robotic dancing(!) among many other areas. The programs and resources available to our students and faculty are sustained and expanded through the generosity of philanthropy. Your gift today supports student success, faculty research and programmatic excellence and innovation. "A gift of any size makes a difference. Join me in supporting ECE on Triton Giving Day!” -Pamela Cosman Chair, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Visit tritongivingday.ucsd.edu today or click the link below to make a gift. Early giving inspires support from other Tritons and unlocks matches and challenges that multiply your impact. Thank you for giving to ECE! https://lnkd.in/gpbx-KaN
