The better you understand your tools, the better artist you will be. That’s particularly true with modular synthesizers. Although they are incredibly powerful and flexible, they can also be less than intuitive. And nothing breaks the creative flow like fighting with your tools: especially as you try to progress from making interesting sounds with these instruments, to making interesting music with them.I’d like to help you on your journey. I started using modular synths as a teen in the 70s, and have since gone on to design, write about, teach how to use, compose with, perform on, record, and mix a variety of electronic music devices. This extends to using computer + modular as well as electronic + acoustic hybrids, building a dedicated electronic music studio, and mixing in spatial audio – including quadraphonic sound and Dolby Atmos.Despite my years of experience, I haven't forgotten what it's like to be new user: excited, but also confused or bewildered by the "lingo" and all of the terms and techniques experienced users take for granted.
