When Threats Evolve Faster Than Your Defences, Risk Escalates
Cyber attacks are increasing in scale, sophistication, and frequency — putting pressure on already‑stretched internal teams.
New Zealand organisations are expected to safeguard data, systems, and customers while navigating rising compliance demands and shrinking time-to-respond windows.
Without the right visibility, expertise, and modern protections in place, even a small incident can disrupt operations, impact revenue, and damage reputation.
Key Challenges:
- Rapidly evolving threats that bypass traditional security controls
- Limited capacity to monitor, detect, and respond 24-7
- Growing governance and compliance expectations
- Misaligned or outdated security tools
- Difficulty maintaining resilience without ballooning internal workloads

Your Questions, Answered
When SOC is taken, who responds to Security Incidents?
When a SOC (Security Operations Centre) service is taken, whether the service is sold as a stand-alone service or part of an integrated managed service, the external 24×7 SOC team will monitor and provide initial response to security incidents. After the initial diagnosis and pre agreed mitigation steps, the security incident is then handed over to either the customers internal IT team or the Lexel Managed Services team (if that is included in the scope).
What is MDR, ITDR and SAT and how does that form part of the SOC service?
MDR (Managed Detection & Response)
Software on your devices that continuously monitors for threats and can take action to stop attacks.
ITDR (Identity Threat Detection & Response)
Protects your Microsoft 365 accounts by watching for suspicious logins or identity‑based attacks.
SAT (Security Awareness Training)
Ongoing training that helps your people recognise phishing and avoid common security mistakes.
Together, these feed into the SOC, giving you 24×7 monitoring, faster detection, and stronger protection across your devices, identities, and users.
What is SOC and what is SIEM?
What areas of my environment is typically monitored with a SOC?
Does the SOC run 24x7?
What happens if I have a security breach?
All customers should have a security policy and plan, including a security incident response plan. That plan should outline the steps they follow, including any pre-established access to Security Incident Management services. If a customer doesn’t have this, immediate access to Security Incident Management services might be possible, but a commitment to a full adoption of this service is typically required.
What is a Security Framework?
A security framework is a best practice framework to achieve higher levels of security posture with in a company. Lexel has standardised on Essential Eight and the Lexel Security Posture Framework (an extension to E8) for SMB. For larger clients or those with higher security requirements, we have standardised on ISO27001. ISO27001 also includes the ability to get formal audits and formal certified achievement. There are other frameworks including: SMB101, NIS, CIS and more.
