Quilt arranges every window for you. Open windows. They find their places. Every new window is given a tile the moment it appears. Close one and the rest fill the gap. Four layouts. One keypress. Grid, Columns, Rows or Side. Pick one and every window rearranges at once. More than fit? They stack. Extra windows share a tile. A small chip says how many, and a click brings the next one forward. Drag a line. The rest follows. Pull the edge between two windows and its neighbour takes the space. Quilt remembers it for that screen. One window, all the room. Fill the screen with the window you are in. Press again and everything goes back. The Mac on this page has a working desktop you can try: drag windows to swap them, drag the lines between them to resize, close and open windows. Download from https://quiltmac.com.

How it works

You choose the layout. Quilt does the arranging.

  1. Grid, Columns, Rows or Side, with up to five windows on a screen. The windows already open rearrange to match, right away.

Features

Four shapes for your screen.

Layouts

Grid, Columns, Rows or Side. Pick one from the menu bar and the windows rearrange at once. Choose how many windows share a screen, set the gap, and give the main window half, 60% or two-thirds of the screen.

Quilt's Settings window on the General page: a drawing of the screen divided by the chosen layout, buttons for Grid, Columns, Rows and Side, and a window count. The drawing is made by the same code that arranges your windows.

Your keys, your screens, your spacing.

A bigger main window

Give the first window half, 60% or two-thirds of the screen, in every layout.

Spacing you set

A gap between windows from tight to roomy, applied to every screen.

Each screen its own

A laptop can use Columns while the monitor uses Grid, with a different number of windows on each.

Apps that stay put

Mark an app as always floating and it keeps its own size and place.

Polite with Stage Manager

Quilt can pause while Stage Manager is on, and picks up again when you turn it off.

Compare

macOS can tile. Quilt keeps it tidy.

macOS, Rectangle and Magnet place a window when you drag it or press a shortcut. AeroSpace tiles everything, for people happy in a text file. Quilt tiles everything for you, with a settings window, the mouse or the keyboard.

macOS means the tiling built into macOS. Rectangle, Magnet and AeroSpace are trademarks of their owners and this page is not affiliated with them. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The app

Which Macs does it work on?

Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later.

Does it work with more than one display?

Yes. Every screen keeps its own layout, its own number of windows and its own main-window size, and a shortcut sends the window you are using to the next screen.

Can I keep an app out of the layout?

Yes. Mark any app as one that always floats and Quilt will not tile it. You can change this at any time from the menu bar.

What about apps that won't get small?

Some apps have a minimum size. Quilt gives them room and tells you why a screen holds fewer tiles than you asked for, so you are never left guessing.

Does it work with Stage Manager?

Quilt can pause while Stage Manager is on and carries on when you turn it off. That is a switch in Settings, on by default.

Can I change the keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. Click any shortcut in Settings and press the keys you want.

What does Quilt need access to?

One permission: Accessibility, so it can move and resize windows. Quilt reads each window's position, size and app name. It never reads what is inside a window.

What about full-screen apps?

macOS gives each full-screen app its own space, and Quilt cannot tile it. It tiles the windows on your desktop spaces.

Does it send my data anywhere?

No account and no analytics. Quilt contacts the network to check your license key and to look for updates, and for nothing else.

Buying and your license

Can I try it before buying?

There is no free trial, because you do not need one to see how it behaves. The Mac at the top of this page is a working desktop: drag windows to swap them, drag the lines between them to resize, close and open windows, and stack them. Quilt is a one-time purchase, and purchases are final.

How many Macs can I use it on?

One Mac with the standard license, two with the two-Mac license. To move to a new Mac, press Deactivate in Quilt's License tab on the old one, then paste the same key on the new one.

I lost my license key.

Write to support@quiltmac.com from the email address you bought with and we will help you.

Is there a refund?

Purchases are final, because you can try the working Mac at the top of this page before you buy. There are two exceptions: Quilt cannot run on your Mac and we cannot fix it, or you were charged twice or by mistake. The details are on the refund policy page.

Why isn't it on the Mac App Store?

Quilt moves other apps' windows, which needs the Accessibility permission and does not run in the App Store sandbox, so it is sold directly.
