Turn your recordings into a story.Edit from text, prepare every angle, and export.

Native Mac app. On-device transcription. Optional CLI and MCP.

"I realized that this was a tool that many editors would find useful"

"Sequence is the first editor where working with raw footage actually feels natural. The non-destructive edits mean I'm never locked in, and that speeds up everything."

  • Finding The StoryThe best moments are scattered across a long conversation.
  • First Pass Takes Too LongListening, scrubbing, slicing, and repeating before the real edit begins.
  • Each Project Has More to GiveThe episode, clean cut, and social clips all compete for the same deadline.

Clear Editorial Direction

The before-and-after workflow, every decision still yours.

  1. Find the Story Inside the Footage

Turn a long recording into a searchable, on-device transcript. Shape the episode from text or search your Catalog for a spoken moment without uploading footage for transcription.

  2. Clean the Rough Cut

Review filler words, silence, profanity, and suggested retakes before export. Hide or restore words, reorder sentences and clips, and mark story beats while keeping the original recording untouched.

  3. Get the Sound Ready

Normalize audio for social, podcast, or broadcast delivery while keeping your original media untouched. Start editing with balanced sound, not another fix for later.

  4. Turn One Episode into Every Cut

Create a Variant for the full episode, clean version, chapters, and social clips, all from the same long-form recording. Each keeps its own transcript edits, markers, audio, and framing without duplicating the source media.

  5. Export Directly, or Take It Further

Export video or audio from your edited composition, or hand off to Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Supported cuts, titles, markers, audio, and framing travel according to the destination. Review export warnings for complex layouts.

More Than a Single Recording

Bring speakers, angles, assets, and optional automation into the same transcript-led workflow.

Know Who Is Speaking

Install the optional speaker model, detect speakers on-device, review their names, and filter the transcript. Manage recurring contributors in People.

Prepare Every Angle

Review camera and audio roles, synchronize matching recordings, and build a Multi-Cam programme with camera decisions and supported picture-in-picture or split-screen layouts.

Reuse the Work

Place media layers or live linked variants on the timeline. Share project edits in a Sequence Package, with optional source copies and editing-data encryption.

Choose Your Automation

Use sq scripts or a compatible MCP client to inspect, draft, clean, and export supported edits. Automation is off by default; connected clients have their own privacy policies.

Your Footage - Your Judgment

Podcast Post-Production

Turn an hour-long conversation into a main episode, clean version, chapters, and social cuts without repeating the first pass.

Long-Form Repurposing

Find reusable moments across interviews and archives, then build platform-specific variants from the same source.

Interviews & Explainers

Turn a single-source spoken recording into a shorter, clearer story with the same transcript-led workflow.

Private Footage Stays Private.

Transcription runs on-device. The local project database is encrypted, with optional iCloud library backup and Touch ID protection. Original media is not encrypted by Sequence. Content you share with an external automation client follows that client's privacy policy.

Sequence 1.4 is out. Here is what it changes about how you work, and how Setapp members can use Sequence in full from 11 November.

Frequently Asked Questions

The essentials before you start.

What is Sequence?

Sequence is a native Mac app for shaping spoken video and audio from a transcript. Review podcasts and interviews, make reversible text edits, prepare audio, create alternate Variants, work with multiple cameras and reusable assets, then export finished media or continue in Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve. See the feature overview and getting-started guides. Feature coverage reflects the current implementation; check the changelog for availability in your installed version.

Can I try Sequence before buying?

Yes. Sign in to start your seven-day free trial, then download Sequence and sign in with the same account. No card is required.

Why not use Final Cut Pro’s caption tools?

Final Cut Pro’s caption tools are useful when you are already editing in its timeline and captions are the remaining task. Sequence starts earlier: read raw footage, shape the rough cut, review repetitive spoken-video cleanup, organize speakers and camera decisions, and prepare audio before continuing in your editor. See the comparison.

Does my media leave my Mac?

Sequence does not upload your media for transcription. Speech recognition and speaker detection run on-device, and project data is stored in an encrypted local database. Optional iCloud library backup sends the encrypted library to iCloud; it does not back up your original media. The local database does not encrypt original source files or ordinary exports.

If you enable MCP, information returned to your chosen AI client, including requested transcript context, may be processed by that client or its provider. Review its privacy policy before connecting confidential projects. Sharing a Sequence Package or an exported file is also your choice, not an automatic media upload. Account, licensing, and diagnostic traffic are separate from transcription; see the Privacy Policy.
