Inspiration

The inspiration for AirController came from the increasing need for touch-free interaction in everyday life. I noticed how difficult it can be to control devices when hands are busy, dirty, or not free—especially while cooking, studying, or working. Voice commands aren’t always reliable, so I wanted a simpler and faster alternative. With AI and computer vision improving, gesture control felt like a futuristic but practical solution that could help everyone, including people with limited mobility.

What it does

AirController is an AI-powered gesture-control system that allows users to control devices using simple hand movements. Users can train custom gestures, assign them to specific device actions, and interact without touching anything. The app also provides real-time gesture detection, device control (lights, fan, AC, media, laptop shortcuts), and an analytics dashboard showing gesture accuracy and usage patterns. It brings a sci-fi-style touchless experience into everyday life.

How we built it

We built AirController using a combination of computer vision, machine learning, and app development tools.

The gesture-detection model was trained using hand-tracking frameworks and custom gesture datasets.

The app interface was designed with a futuristic dark-mode UI using modern design principles.

Real-time gesture recognition was integrated with device-control APIs to trigger actions.

A backend was created to store gesture data, analytics, and user feedback.

The entire system was combined into a smooth dashboard with training, analytics, and settings pages.

Challenges we ran into

We faced several challenges during development.

Ensuring real-time gesture detection without lag was difficult.

Training the model to accurately recognize different hand shapes and movements required multiple iterations.

Mapping custom gestures to device actions needed careful UI design.

Integrating multiple devices and ensuring compatibility was challenging.

Designing a clean, futuristic UI while keeping the app beginner-friendly also took time.

What's next for Air Controller

In the future, we want to expand AirController with more features:

Improve accuracy using more training data

Develop a wearable wrist-camera version

Add voice + gesture hybrid control for richer interaction We aim to make AirController a complete touchless device-control system.
