About the Project: Ingeinx Inspiration
The idea for Ingeinx was inspired by the lack of access to surgical care in remote and underserved communities. During my research, I discovered that many people in rural areas travel hours or even days to reach basic surgical facilities. I was also inspired by mobile medical innovations like solar-powered camps and ambulance-based surgical units, combined with sustainable solutions in healthcare, such as biodegradable sutures and natural dressings. The goal was to merge mobility, healthcare, and sustainability into a single, practical solution.
What I Learned
Through this project, I learned about:
Designing compact, functional spaces for medical procedures, inspired by camper vans and ambulances.
Integrating renewable energy solutions like solar panels to power essential medical equipment.
The use of biodegradable and plant-based surgical materials for sustainable healthcare.
How mobile surgical units can improve access to critical care in resource-limited settings.
How I Built the Project
Conceptual Design: Created a hybrid design of an ambulance and camper van with:
A fold-out sterile surgical tent
Recovery and staff zones
Sterilization and hygiene area
Sustainability Features: Integrated biodegradable sutures, natural fiber dressings, and solar-powered energy systems.
Operational Workflow: Designed for deployment in 1 hour with minimal staff (2 medical professionals), including patient prep, surgery, and recovery.
Visual Representation: Developed diagrams showing the interior layout, workflow, and solar setup.
Challenges Faced
Space Optimization: Fitting surgical, recovery, and hygiene areas into a mobile van while ensuring sterility.
Sustainable Materials: Finding examples of biodegradable sutures and dressings that are safe and effective.
Energy Management: Ensuring sufficient power for equipment using only solar panels and battery storage in remote areas.
Accessibility: Designing a vehicle capable of reaching difficult terrain while remaining stable for surgical procedures.
