Inspiration
We were inspired by our own onboarding experiences and conversations with others. Across different companies and roles, we noticed the same recurring problems: outdated documentation, unclear workflows, and the heavy reliance on senior employees to repeatedly onboard new hires. These issues slow productivity and make onboarding stressful for both companies and employees.
What it does
OnboardingBuddy simplifies and standardizes the onboarding process. It provides new hires with: -Clear, role-specific documentation -A structured onboarding checklist -An AI assistant that answers company-related questions in real time For companies, it reduces onboarding overhead, keeps knowledge centralized, and ensures every employee receives a consistent onboarding experience.
How we built it
We built OnboardingBuddy as a modern web application. The frontend focuses on a clean, intuitive user experience for both employees and administrators. The backend and AI logic are designed to support company-specific documentation, contextual responses, and scalable onboarding workflows. While some team members focused on development, others refined the product vision, onboarding flow, and real-world use cases to ensure the solution addresses genuine business needs.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was balancing scope with time. Designing an onboarding system that works for different roles, seniority levels, and companies required careful planning. We also faced technical challenges when structuring the application to be modular and extensible while still delivering a working MVP within the hackathon timeframe.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building a functional onboarding platform within a limited time. Clearly defining a real business problem and addressing it with a practical solution. Creating a user experience that feels intuitive for both new hires and company administrators. Laying the foundation for an AI-powered onboarding assistant that can scale beyond this MVP
What's next for OnboardingBuddy
Our vision is to continue developing OnboardingBuddy into a full-scale onboarding solution. Next steps include: Deeper AI integration with company documentation. Chat integrations (Slack, Teams, Google Chat). Progress tracking and analytics for managers. Role- and project-specific onboarding flows. Ultimately, we aim to help companies onboard employees faster, more confidently, and with significantly less manual effort.
