Getting Started: Planning Your Event

Organizing a WordPress Campus Connect event is an exciting opportunity to empower students with valuable WordPress skills.

Before you submit an application, here’s what you need to be aware of and plan for:

Event Date

Please submit your application to organize a WordPress Campus Connect Event at least six weeks in advance.

Naming your event

City-wide events across multiple colleges/universities

If your event is a city-wide initiative hosted at multiple colleges or universities, it should be named:

WordPress Campus Connect [City]

Example: WordPress Campus Connect Kolhapur — for events hosted across multiple colleges in Kolhapur.

URL format: https://events.wordpress.org/campusconnect/2025/kolhapur/

Single college/university events

If your event is hosted by a single college or university, it should be named:

WordPress Campus Connect [Institution], [City]

Example: WordPress Campus Connect RCC Institute of Information Technology, Kolkata — for the Kolkata campus.

URL format: https://events.wordpress.org/campusconnect/2025/rcciit-kolkata/

Exceptions (city is part of university name)

When the city is already part of the university’s official name, the event can be named:

WordPress Campus Connect [Institution]

Example: WordPress Campus Connect University of Pisa

URL format: https://events.wordpress.org/campusconnect/2025/university-of-pisa/

Choosing a venue

These events are typically held on campus. When verifying the venue, ensure that proper internet access, screen display, audio, and anything else needed to run the event are included.

Your audience

Focus on educating students, but teachers and faculty can also be included.

Theme and Curriculum

The organizer can choose their own curriculum for the event. Optional topics might include WordPress Basics, themed workshops, or contributing to WordPress.

Presentation decks, logos, certificates, and other helpful materials are available in the WordPress Campus Connect Organizer Resources folder. This folder also includes resources to pitch the event to your chosen campus.

Learning materials can also be found on Learn WordPress.

Duration

Events can be half-day, one-day, two-day, or spread over multiple days or weeks.

Pricing

Events are free for all attendees.

Branding

Use the unified global branding and logo for consistency. You can find WordPress brand resources on this page, and WordPress Campus Connect brand resources in this folder and Figma file.

Sponsor Support

Events are covered up to 300 USD by the 2025 Global Sponsorship program, and any further sponsorship funding will need to be raised through local or in-kind sponsorship.

Asking for help

Have questions about your event or need help? — Maybe logistics, budgeting, or getting local sponsors involved? You can always reach out in the #campusconnect channel in the WordPress.org Slack workspace. It’s a great space where others are ready to support and mentor you through your event planning.

Ready to Apply?

Applications are processed according to the WordCamp process. Organizers are requested to use their .edu or institutional email address if available, but this is not mandatory. No previous organizing experience is required.

When you’re ready, you can submit your application to organize an event here.
