Welcome to Spake! Spake is for short-form serialized voice stuff. Think voice notes, but shared on the open web.
Spake isn’t aiming to be a podcast or music hosting thing. It’s designed for you to record your voice and share it easily, and that’s pretty much it.
Spake is free for omg.lol members to play with during development, but will eventually be its own standalone subscription thing. See the FAQ below for details.
How it works
- Click the Record button and talk for up to two minutes.
- Your post appears, with a default title (the local date and time, but you can change that).
- There’s an optional text field for a transcript or any notes that you’d like to add.
- When you’re ready to share your post with the world, click the Publish button. Published posts appear on your public page.
Accessibility
Providing a transcript is a really nice thing to do for people who are deaf or hard of hearing and would otherwise not be able to hear your voice. You’re highly encouraged to provide one, but I’m not your boss.

FAQ
Q: Why can’t I record more than two minutes of audio?
A: Two minutes just feels like the right amount of time for a voice post. It’s longer than you might think! If you need more than two minutes, you can just make another post.
Q: Will you do automatic transcription of my posts?
A: No. If you can type your own transcription that’s a nice thing to do, otherwise you can use any service or tool you’d like to produce a text transcript.
Q: Am I stuck with this weird username that you picked for me?
A: No, you can roll a new one on the Design page if you’d like. Soon, you’ll be able to point a custom domain (or subdomain) to your Spake page, and no one will even see that username. Domains make the best usernames!
Q: Is there any AI lurking behind the scenes here?
A: Absolutely not. AI bots are blocked from accessing your content on Spake, and we don’t use any AI.
Q: What will this cost when it launches?
A: I don’t know yet, but it won’t be very much!
Q: Can’t I already do this with [an existing app/service]?
A: Maybe! And if that’s what you want to use, go for it! I wanted to make something that focuses solely on short-form voice content, so that’s what this is all about.
