I loathe change!!

summary: What happened to the Classic Editor and why did they remove the plugin and replace it with  this stupid new Block system?? It’s incredibly annoying!!

WP's classic editor plugin stats In attempting to fix the nightmare created by WP with their latest update, I’m being forced to remove any outdated plugins that were working JUST fine before. Why on earth do they think anyone wants WYSIWYG?!!! And why do they make it so hard to find non-WYSIWYG?! :stomp:

I had to re-enable the classic plugin so that I could disable the comments for this post. Because (excuse me for shouting) I COULDN’T FIND THE DISABLE COMMENTS SECTION in their fancy-schmancy new format that requires so many clicks and shifting of bars once the three little dots are located.

Again. Why would they make things more difficult? :stomp: :stomp: :stomp:

edit 8 December 2025: It’s a miracle. WP listened to their users and re-instated the classic editor. It’s still a little glitchy, but at least it’s back! (Read more about that here: Classic Editor Woes Continue.)

Delving into the Archives: Milk Frother for Iced Coffee

summary: going through our photo archives; new milk frother; inexpensive gadget really works!

It was beautifully cool every night over the Labour Day weekend, and it only went up to around 20C each day. It made the Fighter planes roaring overhead every afternoon for the annual Air Show vaguely tolerable.

But, just in time for the first day of school, it’s getting a little warmer today. Warm enough that we decided we neeeded iced coffee this afternoon.

In May, it started to get hot (a little taste for the upcoming nightmare of heat in July and August) and suddenly, T neeeeeeeded to have iced coffee. But he didn’t want just any iced coffee. He wanted iced coffee with foamed milk. Foamed milk that was cold cold cold.

So he bought this cute little gadget.

Milk Frother

It’s perfect for one cup (or glass) and it can be recharged on the computer.

And it definitely works. (continue reading )

[Resolved] Sigh…. the latest WP update doesn’t like my ancient “child” theme

summary: WP update giving me grief

edit 3 September 2025, 13:19 Ha. Fixed again. I hope. But I had to remove another culprit, yet another one of my cosmetic fixes: the custom field I had added to the comment form (for commenters to display the name of their site). Apparently, new WP doesn’t like the coding. Goodness how sad.
edit 3 September 2025, 13:01 RATS!! I spoke too soon. It ISN’T fixed after all. Back to the drawing board….
edit 2 September 2025: It’s a miracle! After laboriously going through the various cosmetic fixes I added to my Child theme, I finally found the culprit. I have simply removed the offensive coding. I can’t remember now why or when I added it. Its removal doesn’t seem to have caused any damage at all. In fact, it has improved things immensely. Because my Child Theme isn’t broken. Or not now anyway…. :lalala:

I thought I had managed to fix all the fatal errors that were caused by the latest WP update. But no. Apparently, there are still some deprecated coding in my “cosmetics only” add-ons to the comments section that are giving me grief. A lot of grief.
