Sooner or later, he's gonna become Fat Tofu. Posted by Picasa

Fifteen Days

15 days have passed since the submission of my last assignment. What busy busy days these have been!

First was the hype in the server @.@ And then was the arrival of Tofu and co.

Now, I'm rather pleased to announce my new project: Jewel Paws!

Yes, this is the reason why I have been so busy! I've been rushing to make several display sets and trying to arrange photoshoots with friends who have pets :D

Busy, but I'm lovin each moment :D

Sit Still

Last week I received a mass email from my professor (for JSB 231 - a subject devoted entirely to criminological theories) in which he said almost half the co-hort had failed Assignment 1!

It was entirely possible that I'd fail too, because at the time, I was working on several assignments at once and did not have any spare time to devote to it at all.

I only gave it one shot, with relevant but old resources that I'd used for previous essays. I didn't even have the time to write a proper conclusion. That was how extremely pressed for time I was.

Furthermore, I had been utterly demoralised by a very narrow-minded marker who failed me because she did not like my interpretation of an essay question (for JSB 232 - Youth Justice), and so I read the email and thought to myself and to God, "well, God, I've already failed one, so maybe another one won't matter. I've put in all I could and You saw my efforts, if I fail, then I fail."

I was so resigned to failing as if it had already been confirmed that I didn't tell anyone, not dad, not R, not Rz about how crappy I felt about the entire university thing. (Though I suspect they knew all the while.)

Then my semester break finally came and I was too eager to forget all about it.

Last Friday, I received JSB 231 Assignment 1 in the mail. Dad left it on my desk, but I was quite reluctant to open the package, cos I was thinking failfailfail the whole time.

When I finally did, guess what. To my great astonishment, I had scored 70%!

The amazing part is not that I somehow managed to churn out impressive, scholarly work in a limited amount of time. The amazing part is that despite my lack of elaboration of some concepts, my professor gave me a higher grade than I'd actually deserved!

His last comment in my essay: "I have given you a good grade because of the apparent thinking you have applied, however ensure that you fully utilise the word limit next time. Good effort."

You might call it luck, but I call it a miracle.

...

Yesterday was quite a happening day in the servers. I think there were like a total of 15 bans yesterday alone. And that is not counting client servers :s

At one point I was trying to spectate three different people at once. Somehow I managed to not get the demos mixed up ~.~"

Think the rest of the mods and I are very thankful school holidays are over for the secondary/primary school crowd. Every school holidays signify a marked increase in server traffic and kiddies trying to get away with hacking. Now we can finally get back to gaming in (relative) peace.

For normal gamers, you'd think that spectating people is a simple job. Let me say, it's damn tiring man!

Especially if you have to watch the person for an entire map - 45 mins. That does not include the mental deduction you have to apply to every kill the person makes on a case by case basis, depending on which part of the map the person, and his victim, is.

Given this, it is really a wonder that so many people have signed up during this on-going recruitment drive.

Maybe they think it's glamourous and whatever.

...

Went to NCC today, but later than intended. Guess I was feeling kind of tired, too, from all the spectating zzzz.. I was very tired actually, to the point I didn't even feel hungry the whole day.

After waiting for close to an hour, the 4pm service finally started late at 1650hrs @.@!

I made a mental note: Never attend last service again!

But as always, whenever I thirst for His guidance, I always find something that quenches me during service at NCC. The key verse today was taken from the book of Ruth, 3:18:

Then said she, "Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall; for the man will not be in rest until he hath finished the thing this day."

Yes, gan cheong hammy me shall learn to sit still and let God make right every wrong in my life.

Sleep

After a few days of sleeping 10hours and more, I think I'm finally happy and content :) Er, I sound like a large hammy myself :s

But don't think it's all sleep and slack. I've also been quite busy catching up on a lot of sgWar stuff. It seems like the more I focus on clearing, the more I find things that need to be done. But hopefully, the new reference guide I've created for staff will come in handy when the new mods come in. I can just direct them to read everything! Hahaha :P

These few days when people ask me how is university going, I cringe. I think for the time being I just wanna hide somewhere where university hasn't been invented :s I'm just glad things have slowed down at last for me. I am really dreading next semester, cos I think it's only going to get tougher from here on.

I really dread having to select next semester's modules. I still feel a lot of pressure to find work, but I also wanna complete my degree asap. Maybe that's the reason I try to stay in bed more, so I don't have to think about it :s

So please don't mind me if I don't sound very chirpy if you ask about school :s

Chilli Crab and BBQ Chicken Wings

Last Friday we went and bought a family of 5 hammies from Sam's Pet and Aquarium at United Square. I think their prices are slightly above average but they were the only shop that had more than 3 baby hammies in a litter (on Friday night).

These 5 hammies come from the same parents, but were of two different litters. I think there are two females in the lot, but Rz and I simply couldn't bear to see them separated.

At first I had doubts about buying the largest hamster in the litter because he was almost adult, and adults tend to be harder to tame. My heart was already won by the three smallest ones :s

Then came the picking up test to see how tame/tameable they were. So I picked up the largest one first. My logic after looking after so many hammies in the past was that the dominant male usually embodies all the personalities of the litter.

In other words, if the dominant male attacks and is hostile, the rest of the litter will be timid yet hostile to humans. This is the worse possible combination for taming :s It will definitely result in stressed human and stressed hammy, which is not good at all :s

To my pleasant surprise, he wasn't afraid of me at all, neither did he try to bite me. He was of a sweet nature, even when I had to flip him over to check his rear. Hamsters usually detest this, especially when being molested by humans they aren't familiar with.

As predicted, I managed to check all 5 of them, even the littlest one with no bites or scratches :) And then I moved on to getting their food and other supplies.

I must say Sam's branch at United Square has a very small variety of small animal stuff. I was rather displeased at their range of hamster food and bedding. How can they run out of everything at once? So I simply got the food mix that they usually feed them with, a water bottle (over-priced), some chinchilla sand (average price for a large bottle) and the smallest bag of woodchip I could find.

The next thing I looked for was a hamster wheel. The ones at Sam's were for adult dwarves/normal hamsters and I knew the 3 smallest hammies would probably injure themselves on them. So I had to pop by Pets Kampong (their webby seems to be down atm) at Novena Square for a dwarf hamster wheel. Ended up getting some yoghurt drops and a simple plastic, small dog-food bowl.

When I got home I put them all in my good old fish tank, which has housed several generations of hammies :P Got up their water bottle and set up their wheel.

I think they settled in very fast as compared to my previous hamsters. Maybe its because groups settle in faster? Perhaps. I noticed that the other hamsters seem to observe the dominant male whenever they are in a new environment, and use him as an indicator.

Easier for me then. Just sayang the leader more haha :P

Sometime over the weekend, I decided to name the smallest hammy Tofu :P

Still thinking of more names for the other four of them. Though they all have the same coats, except for Tofu who has a slightly lighter coat, I've begun to be able to tell them apart by sight.

...

Went over to take a walk at the Parkway branch of the Pet Lovers Centre on Saturday afternoon before meeting JL, ES, Gerg, Sol and Rz for our crab sojourn at ECP :D tbt couldn't come :( He had to work..

Nevertheless we had a rather nice time hogging the table and irritating people who thought we were finished when we were not. Hahahaha sorry for my sarcasm, but I really don't understand.

Is it a crime to wait for our second and third courses?

We had a number of people who tried to make us give up our seats. We even had someone ask us if we were done, and when we said quite nicely, "No, we're waiting for some more food", the person said, "Then I don't wait for you all already lah!"

Like what, we paid for food that's on its way and you want us to not look like we are waiting? Wasn't it your own personal choice to wait for us? Or is it a crime to socialise in between courses during meals?

As Sol aptly put it, "Heng they never ask me, if not I'll roar!"

I think this is what you get when you have several million selfish people on one small island together....

...

Went to church yesterday after 2 months of absence due to assignment influx. The sermon by Pastor Lawrence was rather meaningful, even though he was so excited he was alternating between laughing and yelling half the time :)

Sometimes it's really refreshing to see someone so moved and happy to serve. Service comes so naturally when we are not oppressed or pressured by elders who always want us to think they know better.

It was Fathers' Day, and they had some very cute video interviews of children at the end of the service :) It was so touching and I found myself really glad I missed the Mothers' Day service..

I'd have cried my heart out if I attended I think.

...

Had dinner at R's last night :D Her birthday :D

As usual, it was a family affair. Her Granny and aunt were both there :) Aunty BL cooked garlic oat prawns!! :D

R went for a semi-makeover at Kanebo and came back looking very sweet and demure with curly hair :D So cute! I think curls suit her better, but I don't think it will be easy maintenance-wise.

We even had a short prayer reflection led by her granny after dinner. I don't think Aunty BL and R were very happy, but I felt that fluttery, elusive family feeling about it. I guess they didn't like Granny dragging everything into a sermon, especially when it was R's birthday. This part I can understand, it can get irritating if it happens all the time.

It is very sad that she doesn't realise how selfish she can be towards her own family's feelings, but can be so generous and loving to others. To some extent I think my dad is like that as well.

However, I think in a way, I can understand Granny. To her life, is very short and precious, and the only way she knows how to show her love to her children and grandaughter is to share her Christian walk with them, especially now that her husband is no longer around. They are her only lifelines in more ways than one. I think they have also become her outlet.

In the end, I was very thankful that I made R the handphone strap and earrings, on top of giving her the pendant. I was quite sad to see that she had so few gifts, although of course her mum's present to her was the dinner..

...

Hmmm think I shall take a nice shower and have a facial mask :D Maybe later if I'm feeling more industrious I shall think about the stuff I need to do for sgWar.

Need New Cam!

4 days after submitting the final assignment, I finally feel like I've gotten enough rest :) My body clock is slowly moving back to normal after having to withstand several days of little or no sleep.

Hopefully my purse will recover too :D At least for the past 3 days, I've managed to keep my spending down :s lol.. I must continue to keep it down! Hahaha I think some of you think I can't, especially with the GSS upon us now..

Anyway I tried to take some shots of the handphone strap and bracelet with my dingy daylight cam, and they turned out horrible. Posting them up won't do justice to all my efforts! I think I will have to wait til dad buys a proper one (which he said he will.. don't know how long he will take though) :s

The past two days I was also kinda busy making gifts :D Finally completed R's! I hope my 1st attempt comes out ok :s Hope she doesn't smash it accidentally though :s But I'm really happy it's all ready for her birthday on Sunday :D

I've also sent out E's pressie :D Hehehe with some extra surprises inside :D Managed to keep it really light too :P Postage by registered mail cost only SGD$7.80 :D

sgWar has also been quite abuzz. Recruitment is on and the school holidays means our servers are full almost round the clock. It also means more kiddies trying out various forms of hacks.

Barely had time to start on my Loki Ragnarok #2 with all the goings on. Managed to read chapter one before having to head into Charlie last night because there were some people abusing the spectator bug (again).

...

Found this makeup pouch and brush set from SASA. It's really handy and of good size. By this I mean that it can fit into almost any bag of mine hehe :P Folded up, it is about 2.5cm thick, 14cm in length and 7cm wide. And it came with 7 brushes :D

The pouch has a small pocket with a zip, and is big enough for holding my powder compact and lip gloss palette :D

The brushes are synthetic and not of the best quality, but for bringing around, they are perfect in texture, size and quality. I usually prefer to leave my professional brushes at home, cos they are precious! :x ahahaha

The brush sets come in three colours, black, brown and pine. I got myself the pine one, but the damn camera! It doesn't look like pine in the pic, ya? :c

But then I'm really happy cos its $10.90 only! <3 hee~

Image

...

I'm getting new hammies! Rz is gonna share them with me this time :D We aim to get 6 female dwarf winterwhites so that we can keep them all in the same tank. I doubt that I'd have enough time to maintain more than one tank when semester starts again, so as long as all of them can fit into one tank, it's all good :D

I told dad last night about the new hammies we intend to keep in my room :P Surprisingly, dad didn't freak out! Haha :P He merely went, "Huh?? I thought you outgrew hamsters and other furry things already? Are you sure we want to go through this again?"

I told him it should be fine if its just maintaining one tank/cage. I think he still has nightmares from when I had like 9 tanks and cages in my room hahaha :P

So I've also been busy researching pet discussion forums to suss out which are the more reputable pet shops in SG. I've been away from the pet scene some 3 years, and much has changed.

Right now I'm contemplating woodchip and other types of bedding for hammies :D Following the bedding debates is pretty interesting too :D Apparently everyone seems to agree Breeders Celect Cat Litter is the best?

Hmm will just have to find out... :D

Black Rose

After playing de_assault, de_chateau and de_dust2 in deathmatch mode, I am too hyped up to go to bed. I made a new bracelet for myself and a matching handphone strap today :) Basically, I'd decided to stick to a black rose theme so they could both match my Anna Sui Ring Rouge haha :P

Yes, I am probably obsessed :) But I figured that it's worth all the effort as long as I'm happy :)

Recently I've been thinking a lot about the future (erm, a whole lot more than I usually do), and I really don't wanna be stuck behind a desk for too long. It is a destiny I wish to prevent. I even find myself wishing that things were different, and dad ran his own company instead of being someone else's CEO. Then I could one day takeover from dad and bring the family business to new heights.

Perhaps, though it is just as well, for I doubt dad will trust me anyway :) Yep, that is the shadow that haunts me most of the time - dad seems to have a problem trusting me. But I guess, things have improved over the years between me and dad.

Maybe that is why I cling to everything he says or does for me - because we both paid a high price for our relationship as father and daughter.

Anyway, after the stint in Delta, I am still feeling kinda bored. So forgive me as I make a poor attempt to fill this space, with another quiz.

Do not disturb the snoozing hammy! - no hamsters were harmed in the production of this photograph :P Posted by Picasa

At Dawn on the Fifth Day

The sun was absurdly bright for 6.45am this morning. And how do I know?

Because I was still awake doing my assignment!

I finally finally finished it at 10.05am! I literally sat at my computer from 9pm last night til I completed it this morning. Believe me, my spine feels like splintering, but yeah, it's over and done with :)

The past week was a total blur because I had very little sleep from rushing the last two assignments. All the days felt like one extremely long one. I was already very exhausted yesterday in the afternoon but we had to go for a family dinner and I simply couldn't escape cos it was going to be at a nearby restaurant which has been Grandad's favourite since I can remember :s

So by 4.30am this morning, my eyes were struggling to stay open and my brain was tempting to shut down on me. In attempt to stay awake, I took a break by clicking around to all my friends' blogs and I happened to click someone's link to Xiaxue.

For some reason, it seems to me like Xiaxue has lost her blogging touch. Every post was such a disappointment content-wise that after awhile I just couldn't be bothered to read anymore. I think the next time (if ever again) I visit her blog, would be when I am half-asleep and in need of negative cortical excitation and environmental stimuli.

I still need to wake up later to send off my assignment. Maybe I might even use the opportunity to get more beads to finish my new handphone strap :P I decided to make one to replace my half rusted one :s

Right in order to prevent my impending collaspe on the keyboard, I better head off to bed.

Thank you for the past 7 years of friendship. Looking towards 70 more ;) Posted by Picasa

10100 and 1/4 Toenail

This three year old has made the 10100th visitor :)

My baby is no longer the same purple thing with orange font it started out to be in June 2003. Thank you all for reading and commenting, and the virtual hugging. Yep I do notice a marked increase in hugs :)

Today started off quite efficiently in terms of assignments. I managed to settle my essay outline and introduction after procrastinating the past two days. Well, ok I did do most of my research the past two days. Managed to get about a third of the essay done.

I was happy enough about it and decided I'd earn a good evening's break.

Image At four I left the house for a brief sojourn at Orchard DFS. I finally bought my Anna Sui Ring Rouge, but in .800 :) It cost $24, I'd expected $32++

And then after dinner, I went to walk around Far East Plaza. For some reason I bought a set of 12 fake nail extensions, though I have an un-opened box over at R's, waiting for me. They were pretty, and at $7.90 with glue. I thought they would be good to wear next week or something.

Went home after that to find dad home from his trip, gf included.

Then in my shower, as I was scrubbing my feet, I realised that my injured toe (from Sol's stomping and some girl who walked straight into me last week) had lost 3/4 of nail. There was no bleeding thankfully, but the flesh was still very tender and red :(

I was wondering what to do until I remembered the nail extensions I'd bought earlier. I recalled that out of the 12 extensions, 2 were too small for my fingernails. So I tried to match one of those two to my toe. Amazingly, the 1st one fit perfectly, and only needed cropping lengthwise.

So I guess, yeah I am thankful that being vain has paid off instead of always leaving me feeling poorer haha :P

Anyway something bad did happen today, other than my poor toe, but I shall hang on to Him and G's advice, and I won't repeat it here. Not because I'm unaffected, but its cos I think I won't be able to go on with my work if I talk about it again.

Old friends like G and R are my most treasured possessions. I think I owe this degree more to them and Rz than to my own hard work. (Yes, there's more to this girl than vanity.)

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20

Tempting your hunger.. Pictures from MOS Burger :D Posted by Picasa

Ginger Chicken Soup

Every Monday for the past 11 weeks, I've been going through the same motions of preparing myself for the next onslaught of mugging.

1. Wake up.
2. Lie in bed.
3. Grab handphone to check the time.
4. Refuse to believe another week is here.
5. Refuse to believe another assignment is due.
6. Wonder why I am doing this to myself.
7. Lie in bed.

When I finally bring myself to get out of bed, it is usually because the morning has become too hot for lazing comfort.

Why is it weekends always seem to fly by so quickly? Or maybe I should rephrase that. Why does every moment after I submit an assignment fly past at record speed and then slow down again when I have another assignment to do?!

...

Last Friday I went to place our order for the Anna Sui Ring Rouge .100 and .001, but was told they only have .301, .302 and .601 in supply. So that night I rushed home to check out what colours they were. Yucks! They are all sickly shades of pink! So M and I decided to check the counters for .100 and .001, for 20% more, we might as well just get the colours we want.

Got E her gift, but I won't say what it is here, except that it is a limited edition Anna Sui, in case she is reading :P (Hi E! hehehe..)

After that I went to PS and met Rz for dinner at MOS Burger. I fell in love with the Ebi Rice Burger all over again hehe. Rz even tried the new Oyako Rice Burger which I thought looked pretty cute. It looks exactly like its name suggests - Oyakodon minus the bowl, with the tasty stuff sandwiched between two layers of rice :)

ImageI really love MOS, and when I was in Australia, I used to miss it so. I think MOS Burger has proven that burgers can be healthier, and you can even tell the difference in the first bite. What I really love is that they are not chunky and heavy-laden with the smell of oil. In Japan, they even feature different types of lettuce grown around different parts of Japan in their burgers every month.

Surely good photography must help popularity too.

Image
...

I actually wanted to go down to Orchard over the weekend, but had family stuff going on. Also, it is probably a very wise decision to stay away from the shopping strip. Purse-wise and health-wise.

...

Like me, Dad has also been feeling tired and listless lately, and more than once, has complained about having too much work to do. So, feeling kinda guilty for not cooking any meals over the past two months, I went out to Cold Storage last evening, came home and boiled up a truly yummy anti-fatigue antidote - chicken soup!

Dad was out until 1130pm, and my 4-hour soup was ready to greet him when he came home :) I think besides being yummy on its own (meaning: without having to add much salt), the soup is partially successful because by the time he came back, the entire house was filled with its soothing, gingery aroma.

Was kinda rewarded with a nice chat with dad over his soup. With his gf always about these days, it's getting harder for us to talk. So maybe I've uncovered the secret to a happy home: Yummy aromas facilitate good communication :D
