A Not So Progressive Dinner

A Not So Progressive Dinner

I love to host parties! I have recently convinced one of my besties to host a progressive dinner with me, this Sunday. The theme is Organic Italian, because every great party needs a theme. We originally wanted to do a true progressive dinner, but due to husbands, babies, and the fact that we are all spread out through the metroplex… we will start at 1 house, walk 6 blocks to another, and then return to point A. Below is Vegetable Lasagna, a recipe from Giada that we will attempt.

I will post pictures of how our evening unfolds, and I must say, I am excited that we have all found an afternoon free to break bread together. No doubt there will be a tremendous about of laughing involved, which is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, I am helping to host a bridal shower for one of my Jesus gypsy friends. She is getting in married in just a few weeks, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to honor her. We used to make a new Bible study selection based mostly on the appearance of author on the back cover. We have come a long way, but we are still weary of perms, broaches, and denim jumpsuits.

Which talents are you using to bring joy to others around you? Whether you are a host, artist, encourager, hugger, giver, prayer, or any other talent the Lord has blessed you with make sure you use it. Don’t let your awesomeness go to waste, let others enjoy your gifts!

ALDO Calcagni Wedge in Lilac, $100.

I was instantly impressed with this shoe the moment I saw it. It’s perfect for Spring! I love the shape, color, and texture. Unfortunately, this is not in my budget for March…. What should I do? “Pay the rent or blow it”? Pay it ladies! Being financially responsible is a statement in today’s society. Be a positive role model to your fellow fashionistas. Perhaps, if I find room in my budget over the next few months, I will add them to my wardrobe. In the meantime, I’m content to reach my financial goals.

Spring 2012 Trends

Spring 2012 Trends

Each season there are new trends for you to update your look! It’s important to remember to take a trend that meshes well with your existing style. I have posted several trends for you to enjoy! My favorites so far this season, although there are plenty more!

White denim, although not new, is very popular. Choose a style that flatters your body type the best, and that you are comfortable in. These are from J.Crew, they are about $100.

For stripes, choose colors that flatter your skin tone! Stick with wide stripes, they are much more flattering. This blouse is from Gap, it’s about $60.

The color blocking is very popular. Don’t worry about being too matchy. Also, if you are going to wear statement shoes, keep everything else toned down.

Zoey Deschanel has the coolest bangs around. Take my advice, and seek a professional if you want to add these into your look. Bangs are tricky!

Have fun with your look this Spring. If you have questions about a trend, just ask!

One of the great apects of a new season is all the versatility it offers from it’s preceeding companion. From Fall to Winter, or Winter to Spring there is always much diversity in what is socially acceptable to wear based on deciding guidleines deemed appropriate by those who set the trends.

Although, there is this underlying current of fashionistas, who nod at the “new trends” and decide for themselves if this is a trend worth dawning, or something to let float by so that another fashionista may enjoy. I think it is perfectly acceptable to not embrace all trends, but rather those that mesh with your existing look.

For example, nude lips are in for Spring. But the same shade of nude doesn’t flatter every person. Even if so-and-so doesn’t leave home without her favorite shade, doesn’t mean you have to wear the same shade on your pout. Choose a hue that flatters you, whether it’s Cover Girl or Nars, if it flatters you, it works!

Proverbs 31:30 says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting. But a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised”. Friends, know you are apart from the fashion trends. Be confident in yourself and the garmets the Lord gives you. He gives you garmets of love, respect, compassion, humor, and so much more! These qualities never go out of style, and are always in need by people in your lives. I pray that you always walk in the confidence of the Lord.
