ImageMBO Cinemas is Coming to town!

As many would have put it, it's about time for a new cinema in Kuching. Been a long wait for moviegoers as rumours have been in the air since year 2008 when the Spring shopping mall opened.ImageImageCome 19th August 2009, Kuching moviegoers welcome the highly-anticipated new eight-screen cineplex and MBO's second largest after the 10-hall cineplex in Ampang, Selangor. It was reported in late March that the Chief operating officer Ikmal Nizam Ariffin revealed that the company will be spending about RM800,000 to RM1million per hall. With that amount of fund, Kuching will finally experience its first 3D screening - also MBO's first, which will be placed in the largest hall that seats 426 patrons. The whole cinema is stated to have a total seating capacity of 1,584. Aside from that, there'll be a hall designated for couples only, accomodating approximately 50 couples - I can hear thumping and whistles already~ From what i've heard, the sound system will be Dolby Digital Surround EX, a step up from Dolby Digital 5.1, increasing realism of the dramatic effect and emphasising the well-sought out 'feel'.

ImageIt is located near Padini Department Store.Image

Meanwhile, the Lotus Five Star(Riverside Cinema) which recently took over from Metrowealth and the Star Cineplex Kuching will be facing a worthy competitor. Although Lotus Five Star had just refurbished its hall, changed the seats of the movie halls and introduced a a-flat rate parking fee, it's hardly comparable to Star Cineplex and the coming MBO Cinemas. Star Cineplex also recently altered its blue and dark theme to a green and brighter theme as well as replaced the cushions of its seats. But it is expected that Star Cineplex will fare reasonably well but with an unavoidable slight drop in business.

On the other hand, the retail space on the 2nd floor of Spring will soon be filled with entertainment - targeted at youths, karaoke outlet, a few food outlets and more retail concessions.

Well guys, another new entertainment outlet for our quiet city. Can't wait to watch movies like District 9 first on the new screen! where the comfortableness, sound system and all else will be tested. Sure hope people won't simply litter around the place.

Most of the information was obtained from The Star Newspaper.

Monday, 27th July 2009 is the highly anticipated' day. The Opening of the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) complex in Kuching, which is set to be an icon for the state. It is a nine-storey building with a distinctive umbrella-shaped roof and has an architecture that combines the unique elements of Sarawak's heritage.

Image
Most of the main city roads will be closed on Monday, much to the horror of workers from that area. Parents too probably as the schools nearby are staying open, rubbing in on the students after a certain someone voiced out that there will be a holiday in the wake of the event, giving false hope to the youngen".

ImageThere is much to be hyped about.
I am very interested in seeing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin with his entourage on the road. (yes i remember his name all right, after a punishment of having to write it repeatively for 20 or was it 30 times..) I heard that he brought many people along, practically came in one plane, requiring Thirty-nine Cars for them and that excludes the upriders and rear riders? riders along the sides, police cars and an ambulance.
Yes, much to be hyped about.
And I reckoned state speakers only has one uprider, a car for security and the VIP.
Menteri-menteri besar will have.. 2 upriders? and etcetera.
Again, much to be hyped about.

Image
I like the sight of this (not the photo above). It's not everyday one gets to see upriders and cars tailing behind followed by more riders. It injects some wow and stares. They are nice cars also *so sue my sakainess* An unusual event always assemble a crowd and an assembly never fail to bring some excitement, increasing serotonin levels as the world plunge further into depression... (crapping, I am. Couldn't recall the name of the hormone in mind. Any ideas?)

Image
I went for a look see of the place on the eve of the big day. The stalls are lined a stretch along the road, draped in white, facing the main bazaar instead of the river. Saw a couple of floats. -Daulat Tuanku- And some ongoing construction work in which I hope they've tided up by now. Also, I passed by a site nearby with much trash laying around. Certainly a place all the VIV (very important visitors) won't be brought an inch near to.

Image
However, my plan has placed me housebound for the day. In fact, I dont mind at all - always happy to avoid a traffic congestion. Never planned to go down there myself to watch the VIV - Who in the right mind would when there are better things to attend to. I'll probably try to catch a glimpse of the long line of vehicles on the telly. After all, that's about all I'm interested in. xD

Events for Monday are the opening of DUN in the morning, regatta in the afternoon, fireworks at night. The Conference of Rulers on Tuesday and Wednesday while the ladies and wives pay visits to some of Kuching's attractions and it's 'have a safe trip home' on Thursday.
Hopefully they will bring news back to their own states that no, we Do not live on trees and nor, quote - do we park our bmw under the tree of our habitat. We do, however have much more greenery in our city and we're proud of it. Fresher as well as cleaner air and water.

Hopefully, I can set foot in the place soon... Very unlikely, but I can hope, can't I?

ImageThere's a saying that goes - no pain, no gain (Yes Jane, thanks to you and your aerobics)
On a totally unrelated matter, what is there to gain from this pain?
The spasm and colic-like, as it is, is uncalled for.
Catchphrase 'Feel the burn' is just wrong, in this case.
The contractions and cramps could knock me out - it nearly succeeded once.
My Prostaglandins are having a field day. Doing finely in what they do. (For the curious - They are hormones that stimulate contractions, in this case)
If my tissues could talk, they will be screaming for blood!
and for some odd creepy unknown reason, PATA PATA PATA PON rings in my ear! (BA WHAT HAVE YOU DONE)
The gain? a small insight of labour.

Out of the blue and at the eleventh hour, I found out I was going for Sports Day. GRSS Sports Day. Frankly because lots of people were attending, and I found a ride that goes there late (some others going at 6am and even 5am - precious nap time).

There i went, appearing at Stadium Negeri and bumped into plenty of familiar faces. I would say, I reached there at around 11am, after breakfast of whatsitcalled with Jake.

Let's briefly go through the list.
Poke sw
Hugged lh
Waved to Eileen, Ai Lee, Mich
High-fived Kat whom i haven't seen at all this holiday.

Had a glance of tienPhin

Hi to LP
Hi to Christine
Greetings to tzewei and had him walk with me all the way down to the carpark.. barefooted

We left rather early though and missed the march pass, and Ian. The only event i saw was the... I forgot what it's called but I like competing in it last time. Here's a shot.
Image
After that, we sent Ivan home, found out there's no BigMac and later, bumped, yet again into another bunch of Greenians.
It is indeed a day to catch up with old mates.
We went into Hall 2 for Ice Age. Greenians populated the place. Not that there were many people.
The movie was alright. Not awesome but alright. Couple of laughs then and again. Luckily it was only for RM5. xD

Oh yes, I learned two new words today. Words which in turn, will be revealed in Lh's blog, so stay tune there. =D

oh my.. Forget about my previous post. It works fine on morzilla now. Geez... I spent half an hour trying to get it to work..

Maybe it was the internet line, getting broken so much of the time these few weeks.

Tadaaa~ Welcome to my desk.

People I need your help. Please tell me whether you can view the SHOUTOUT or chatbox on the right.
Because I cant view it when I'm using Morzilla Firefox. But it seems to be working fine with Opera, google chrome and somewhat works in IE as well. BUT NOT FIREFOX!

So do you mind leaving a comment for this post on whether you can view it with firefox, or whether you can view it at all.

Thank You!
