I'm switching the blog over to Tumblr.com. This way I can post from my phone--which means I will actually post. All I do at my desk is work--my phone is where I browse and facebook and such, so this should make it easier to post to the blog. Yay!
Anyway, here's the link: http://jimandmelinda.tumblr.com/

Thank You, Julie!
I have been assured that I should be receiving my pictures very soon. They're in the mail, apparently. I just wanted to see them on her blog, but this will do very nicely. I've also been publicly told off. I would have expected nothing less.
Thank you!
Here's a little something for your trouble. Enjoy!

All Right... THAT IS IT!!!!
I'm sorry, but I cannot contain my irritation any longer. I am being forced to publicly call out my sister-in-law... YES, YOU!! You know who you are. The one who has the fancy camera and took all the pictures at the family reunion... mmm-hmmm... you.
I have asked, texted, nagged and sent my minions (Jim) to do the same. We WANT PICTURES!!!!! I mean... it's not like you have twin toddlers to take care of day in and day out. It's not even like your husband runs a running shoe business in P-town and is in the middle of his busiest season. And I could understand it if your awesome brother had just built you an amazing entertainment center that you have to paint... (btw--waiting for pictures of THAT, too!)
I don't want to see your other summer fun... I don't even want to see the disgusting pig that Dave ate. That's all fine and dandy... whatever. I WANT PICTURES!!!! of me, well not me... especially not me... but of my kids and your kids and all of us camping and playing, etc. And the entertainment center, don't forget that.
So, just in case you thought you were going to put it off even another day... think again, missy.
No... seriously. Can I please see the pictures? Pretty please?
Thanks.
Love you! :)

Well Howdy, Stranger!
So, did anyone notice I changed the name of the blog? Wanna know why???? do ya? We're Idahoans now! Yep, we done gone and made the move to the countryside. I'm pretty darn excited about it, too.
Actually people here talk pretty much the same as everywhere else... there is a slight Idaho accent, but I like to think I already had a bit of that due to my Dad being a native Idahoan. Although, I've never called a creek a "crick" and don't plan to anytime soon. But I might be persuaded to start calling the days of the week "Sundee" "Mundee" "Tuesdee", etc. Just because I think it's cute.
So... we're all moved into a fancy rental house that kind of fell in our laps--not literally, that would be very painful--and I am in LOVE with this area. Oh, Idaho... how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
There are big pretty trees that add beauty but don't block the view.
The nights are cool, the days are warm, the breeze is soft...
The smell of grass and moist air is pure heaven.
I have already seen two of the most spectacular rainbows ever.
I see horses and cows on the way to the grocery store.
Traffic is rarely more than a few cars and never stop and go.
I don't have to get on the freeway to go anywhere.
Most people here speak English.
There are cute little bakeries and boutiques and local mom and pop stores.
The readerboard on the gas station said "Welcome Home Sister Kara Staley".
Sister Kara Staley gave her homecoming talk in our ward today--and it was awesome and my girls soaked it in like sponges.
In church, wise older guys give talks that include farm analogies. I LOVE farm analogies.
I can go to any kind of restaurant, the movie theater, Deseret Book, the mall, Idaho's largest used book store (awesome!!!), a fabric store, Barnes and Noble, a ton of cute boutiques, walmart, target, tj maxx and anything else I could possibly want--all within 5-10 minutes "down the hill". (past the horses :)
I can see the city lights and the sunset from my bedroom windows.
My husband can go off-roading and shooting 5 minutes "up the hill" from the house.
Yellowstone is 1 hour away, the Tetons are 1 hour away, Jackson Hole is 1 1/2 hours away, Swan Valley is 45 mins away.
Sweet kids from all over the neighborhood were inviting my kids to play within 1 week of our arrival.
Nobody seems too interested in what we do for a living, just how we're doing and if we need anything.
Our new neighbor served his mission in New Mexico and taught Jim how to make the best salsa ever--no seriously, and we know salsa.
We get to ski this winter!!!
The school is next door to the church and both are right down the street.
Eliza's girls camp is at BYU-Idaho's Badger Creek. They will be whitewater rafting, rappelling and a bunch of awesome stuff. I've already volunteered to "help".
Sophie is buddies with an autistic kid next door, who has finally met a friend who will not get offended by him, will stand up to him and tell him off when he needs it--and he does the same for her. He actually talks more than she does, which I didn't think was possible. His mother tells me she's perfect for him.
There is a trail that follows a canal across the street from the house, where you can see horses and trees and fields and birds and ducks and two grave-sites that I'm pretty sure are for the farmer's beloved horses and a beautiful homestead and NO cacti at all whatsoever.
I could go on forever about the reasons I love this place. I'm sure my list will grow even more. But for now, I'll keep adding to my list in my head and share it with whomever requests a recitation.
Pictures soon. I'm going to go sit on the porch and feel the breeze on my face. :)

You know you live in Arizona when...
So, the other day I was working on the computer in my office (shocking, I know) and Sophie was playing in the backyard. All the rest of the kids were at school. It was early in the morning and pretty chilly out (no, really, it was).
Suddenly I hear the sliding door open and Sophie yelling, "I'm gonna tell Mom!"
What the... ???? Who the heck is she talking to?
Before I can even ask, she marches into my office and in that tattle-tale voice says, "Mom! Duke is smoking!"
Huh?
Me: "What is he doing?"
Sophie: "He's smoking!"
Me: "Is there white smoke coming out of his mouth?"
Sophie: "Yes"
Me: "Is it cold outside?"
Sophie: "Yes"
Me: "Breath looks white when it's cold out. He's not smoking, honey."
At this point she's starting to "get" that Duke isn't going to be in as much trouble as she thought, and so she loses interest in the conversation and asks for a snack.
Well, at least she knows smoking is bad. I think.

Christmas Fun...
Just checking in here with an update... Jim is giving me grief for not blogging in so long. What else is new?
My brother Zack got home from his mission last month, just before Thanksgiving, so that was really nice. Christmas was fun. The kids (and Jim) got a wii and I'm pretty sure they aren't meant to be used 22 hours a day. We'll see how long the thing survives. I swear Caleb didn't eat or even blink on Christmas day. He's ALL wii, all the time. It's fun. It'll get some rest when the kids go back to school (so will I for that matter).
I'll have to take some pictures of the antics. They are pretty funny dancing around sword-fighting, skiing, wake-boarding, ping-ponging, bowling, golfing, etc. And I'm trying to work my tail (polite version) off on the wii Fit Board. It's really fun. Seriously.
Anyhoo, my brother Andy broke his ankle while he and his wife were in town which was bad. But that meant I got to watch my little nephew while my brother had surgery (5 pins in his ankle) and that was good -- for me-- very selfishly good. Little Pete is a-dor-a-ble. What a doll. I think I'm in love.
Sooo... what else? Hmmmmm.... the kids are all doing well. Jim is less busy at work, which is very nice. I'm busy with my work, but not more than I can handle. And life generally keeps rolling along.
We missed Jim's family during the holidays (alot!) but Jim's mom sent us a really cool gift: she had a ton of old slides turned into prints and filled two whole albums with pictures we've never seen... pictures of Jim's parents on their missions, pictures of him as a baby and growing up... old Christmases... Eliza was particularly disgusted by the old mullet pictures. That was fun.
It was a really neat gift. Jim LOVED it.
The post-Christmas crash was particularly hard on Sophia. She had a hard time going to sleep for 2 nights after Christmas, she was so hopped up on toy-induced goof-balls. Stocking candy didn't help, I'm guessing. She's coming down off the excitement now, though. Already asking how many days until next Christmas. Our 2 oldest are no longer "believers" and I'm pretty sure Lydia's entertaining some serious doubts. But Caleb is a HUGE fan of the fat man in the red suit. Sophie loves him too, but isn't really all that worried about being put on the 'naughty list' apparently. She really should have had a lump of coal by the time the big day arrived she was such a turkey the week before, but her Daddy is a big old softie (when it comes to his girls).
Oh, BTW, Jim made me a gorgeous picture frame for a signed print my mom gave me years ago. I've been toting it around for years, waiting for the magic time when I'd have a couple extra hundred dollars lying around to have it properly framed (yeah, right). But he made the perfect frame for it. I love it. I'll post a picture of that, too.
I felt kinda bad because all I got him was a PA system for his truck so he can drive around his work-site yelling at people from inside his truck. It also makes animal sounds and plays some tunes. I'm betting he'll either get himself arrested or beat up because of this thing. But he's pretty excited about it, so I don't feel THAT bad about not hand-making a thoughtful gift for him.
Anyway, that's the haps. We're just all wii'd up and having fun here. I need to upload the pictures and post them on here for you... right after one more round of Mario Kart... :)

Over the hill... so to speak.
Jim made an observation this morning that stopped me in my tracks.
He was delaying the inevitable workday, when he sighed and said, "Do you realize that we our now halfway done raising our kids?"
I replied, "No... Sophie's only 4 1/2."
"Yes, but Eliza is almost 13, and in 13 more years, Sophie will be 18. So, we are now almost exactly half-way to empty-nesters."
Having been educated in the Portland Public School district, it took me a few moments to process the math in this equation. After working it out in my head, I was stunned.
"But they were all just babies! We just had them a little while ago. I'm still not even fully recuperated from the years of sleep deprivation!" (And goodness knows I still have "baby weight" to lose.)
But he's right. In five years our oldest will be 18 and legally an adult. We have just 5 more years to totally prepare her for life on her own. Of course, we're not kicking her out when she's 18 or anything, but she'll be able to leave and make her own way in the world then. And the rest are lined up right behind her on the departing runway.
Where did the time go? Or, as Jim says when we are being outnumbered and overrun by our kids, "How did it come to this?"
When my mom dropped me off at college, my brothers told me she cried the whole way home to Portland. I didn't understand why.
Until now.

On the Road pt.3
All right, we're settled in at Grandma & Grandpa Turner's and I now have some time to blog about all of our adventures. I don't remember where I left off, so I'll just tell you about the highlights. While we were in Utah we went to Lagoon with Jared & his family, Grandma Turner, Heather and Amanda. We had alot of fun. Rode rides, had thrills, got soaked on the rapids. A great time was had by all. Sophie was a trooper. She had cut her foot running around barefoot at Aunt Norma's and she walked all day long with a sore foot and without any complaints. She loved every minute of it. Her favorite ride was the "Yady-Bug Dwop" (Lady Bug Drop). She is truly fearless. Lydia and I went through the Terroride (scary ride) with out eyes closed the whole time, when Sophie came out she said, "Did the lady get away from the bad guy?" She wasn't scared, just curious to know how the thing ended. Weird.
I've got a thrill ride buddy in Eliza. She and Emma went on everything I did (except the huge drop ride, whatever that's called, which scared the holy crap out of me). Emma wasn't too happy about it all, but she was trooper. Eliza loved it. Lydia wasn't having any of it and Caleb was too short to go on anything but the little kids rides. This really bothered him because his cousin David, who is 1 month older than Caleb, is as tall as Emma and can go on any ride in the park. Oh, the trials of a short kid. I totally understand, Caleb.
Here are some photos at John & Norma's:
Here's Lagoon:
Here's what we were up to in Idaho Falls:
Temple Square Trip last Sunday:
There...now I'm all caught up. Tomorrow we leave for the BEACH!!!! My favorite. So I'll have lots more photos to add over the next few days. Until then... wish me luck keeping up with this crazy crew!

On The Road part 2
Okay, where was I? Oh yeah, the first day in Utah we spent at Aunt Mandy's salon getting haircuts (and highlights for me). Here are some photos:

Sophie thought it was really funny getting her hair washed in the sink. She giggled the whole time.
Here is a picture of the girls after haircuts:

And of Jim's Grandma Mac, his brother Jared & baby Anna, his Mom and Eliza.

On The Road...
The kids and I hit the road for a few weeks. Jim will be joining us in Oregon on the 2nd. But for now we are flying solo--all 6 of us. We left Friday morning and drove up through Arizona...Phoenix, Flagstaff, Page... over the Glen Canyon Damn Bridge (Yes, I know I spelled it that way...I hate driving over that bridge--eliza was laughing at me while I clutched the wheel in a death grip with the firm knowledge that all of our lives were dependent on my two hands on the steering wheel and that I could at any moment make one mistake that would send all of us careening to our horrifying deaths in the river below.) Anyhoo, then we continued on into Utah and finally landing in Lehi, Utah at Kamber's parents house. (Kamber is married to Jim's brother Jared.) We had a great time with Kent and Keena Price and their bird Scuffy (a 40 year old Cockatoo...I think) and all of the cousins. (Pictures tomorrow)
Now we're at Jim's Aunt Norma's house and we're playing with more cousins and having a blast. We went to Temple Square and the Church History Museum today, rode the light rail and the other night we went to a Brazilian meat eating restaurant. I'll update more soon, but Sophie is melting down...so I gotta go.

"Make new friends, but keep the old..."
I think I'm ready to blog about it now.
The day after our great camping/boating trip with the Paulsen family, they got some exciting news. Unfortunately, their exciting news is our devastating news. They are moving to California. Out of the blue, Brian got the transfer he thought he'd never get, to move to the BP station near their family in Temecula, California. They've lived in Arizona away from their family for 9 years. It only stands to reason that as soon as they become close friends with us, they'd get to move. The Turner curse lives on...
I cried my eyes out because I'll be losing my best friend, Carly. And Jim and Brian are as close as I've ever seen him with anyone but his brother. Emma and Lauren are best friends. Lydia and Lacey are best friends. Tommy and Caleb and Sophia play so well together. IT SUCKS!!!! We had to break it to the kids and hold them while they cried and cried. Why does everyone move away but us?????!!!!
AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
I'm happy for them. Really. I am. I really am. But I'm kind of devastated for us. It's one of those life experiences I guess. But it's gonna to suck big time.
Thanks for the memories...

The Haps...
Okay, catching up on other stuff...
Oh, yeah... Memorial Day, last day of school, camping, boating, mother's day, gardening, snake killing, garage cleaning, yard sale-having, girls' camping...

We went camping/boating at Canyon Lake (up near Phoenix) with our friends, The Paulsen's. We had a BLAST!!!!
Here's Emma with her best friend, Lauren, tubing:

They were so funny!
Here's Eliza on the knee board--she picked it up really quickly.

Here's Jim with Sophie on his lap and Caleb in the other tube. They loved it! Sophie just giggled and laughed the whole time.

Here are Lydia and Emma on the tubes. Emma kept giving the thumbs up to go faster and Lydie kept giving the thumbs down to go slower. It was pretty funny.

Here's the whole crew, ready for a day on the water:

This was a fun trip. Who knew there was water this nice in Arizona? Thanks, Paulsen's, for taking us along.

Recital 09
Here are some pics:

This was taken after the recital was all over...tired, happy girls with smudged make-up:

I have to figure out how to post video from my video camera on here. When I do I'll upload some clips of the girls' dances...Eliza on pointe for the first time, Emma in her cute costume, Lydia in a tutu and Sophia as cinderella.
This is what happened when Sophia was waiting for the other girls to get ready to go:

Here is Caleb towards the end of the recital:

"Is it OVER YET????"

Current Events
Soooo...... it's been a little while. Okay...a long while. Anyway, here's what we've been up to:
Dance Performances, Parent Teacher Conferences, Primary, Young Men's, Young Women's, Work, Planting a Garden, Father Son Campout, Disneyland Trip (without kids!), work, school, homework, Activity Days, Primary Activities, Ward Picnic, Playing at the Waterpark, watering flowers, sweating (alot!), trying to lose weight (alot!), exercising, preschool, dance classes, work, visit from Joan, Tiffany & Garrett-- FUN!, editing, shipping, dunging kids' rooms, getting rid of stuff, new computer, defective product, warranteed repairs, sick dogs, work, controlling chaos, The Office season finale, track meets, sewing classes, Personal Progress, getting ready for girls' camp, getting ready for scout camp, primary music, Easter, school spring concerts, recital pictures, work injury, stitches, play dates, work, work and more work... Did I mention work?
No wonder I'm so tired! So, here are some pictures of above mentioned activities:
Eliza is on the left--running hard!

Dancing at a Community Event

Sophia in the bleachers at Eliza's track meet

Picnic on Mt. Lemmon with friends for Sophie's 4th Birthday

Easter!

Nice Tonsils, Caleb (He was really excited to get his first Webkinz)

Jim bashed his head open with a broken crowbar and got 7 stitches. Here is a photo where you can see the stitches. It has actually healed up very nicely.

I'll have to post more pictures after I get my new (defective) computer back--long story. Alot of the latest pictures are on there. Don't worry, they're backed up elsewhere, too. I just don't want to go hunting for them right now.
By next week I should have a whole bunch of other stuff to blog about: last day of school, field day, dance recital, etc. etc. The week after that camping. The week after that girls' camp. The week after that Scout camp. The week after that vacation to Utah, Idaho, Oregon, California and back. The week after that....
Man, this summer is going to fly by. Come to think of it... LIFE is flying by at an insane speed.

Silly Sophie
Sophia (age 4) was running a pretty warm fever last night, so I was in and out of her room all night. Apparently she was having those weird fever dreams, because one time when she cried out for me, I came in the room and asked, "What's the matter, Sophie?". She sat straight up in bed and said, "I'm scared of lizards. Bad lizards." Which is kind of funny by itself, but it sounded like this, "I'm scaewed of wizoods. Bad wizoods". And that just made me laugh.
It's funny what's funny in the middle of the night.

Funny Boy...
Caleb was getting ready for school the other day, tying his shoes and chewing his tongue in concentration. I told him not to chew on his tongue and he said, "Why? Will it get shorter?"
He was absolutely serious...and little alarmed.

Well...Hellooooooooo....
I'm pretty sure I was never as silly and giggly as my daughters have become. Maybe it's a sister thing. I wouldn't know much about that. I grew up with all brothers. I remember being pretty giggly with my friends, but that was not ALL THE TIME. My girls can completely entertain themselves just repeating lines from a movie/cartoon/commercial/whathaveyou...for hours. It seems each time a particular line is repeated, it becomes more hilarious, until they are rolling around in hysterics. And at that point anything said or done by anyone around is just as humorous.
Anyway, at least they're not fighting--at the moment. That will be in about 5 minutes.
Heavenly Father must have a really advanced sense of humor...sending me 4 daughters. What the heck am I doing with 4 daughters? At least I did have 1 son. Poor lonely little guy spends a lot of his time these days either playing Legos or Lego Star Wars X-Box.
It's raining today. It was absolutely freezing, too... like 45 degrees. I know, I know...I can feel the pity from here. You must feel so sorry for us Arizonans. It's February and we are suffering down here with a weird cold snap disturbing our usually sunny and 70 degree weather. Some how we'll get through it. I made stew for dinner to fight off the chill.
I've decided that since I can not change where I live (our house is now worth about $60K LESS than we owe on it), the only thing I can change is my attitude. So, from now on--even though I dread the coming summer vehemently--I will not whine or complain.
I will look for the beauty in the cactus, sunsets and mountain vistas and ignore the brownness of the desert and utterly depressing lack of trees. I will enjoy the feeling of fresh air while I have it and smile at the sunshine. I've got about 3 months until I will no longer be able to deny my children regular visits to the pool and will be forced to wear a swimsuit in public. In that 3 months, I can do my best to make that coming day a bit less dreadful by trying to lose some weight. And then I am determined to be happy and content with myself regardless of any horrible torture my mirror sees fit to inflict on my delicate psyche. I will.
There...it is now made public and I must hold myself accountable to you...my virtual reader out there in the blogosphere. Whoever you are...now you can rest assured not to have to read any more whining, sniping anti-Tucson blog posts from me. I will hold my mouse high and march my typing fingers forward in positive, upbeat blog posts full of witty humor, amazing insight and the occasional funny kid story.
This is my promise to you...the blog visitor.
