Where is the Kindergarten kid?

So I was thinking it had been awhile since I have had a good kid story, this is a doozy!!!

I went to get #5 from school today and he wasn't there.  I wasn't too worried since I was a little late and drove around to the office.  He wasn't there either.  I informed the secretary that they had lost my child and she was looking a little shocked and started to radio the teacher.  Teacher is gone to lunch so we start looking for her and she informs us that he went on the bus.  Now mind you  THERE IS NOT A BUS THAT GOES ANYWHERE NEAR MY HOUSE!    So we have to stop all the busses and find the lost kid.  He was sitting on a bus thinking it was going to take him for a ride.  Apparently he is set on riding this bus because he threw his Kindergarten exam so he could ride the bus to the boys and girls club for tutoring.  (we got that cleared up he is not being tutored he didn't need it)

He was very mad that I had interrupted his bus ride and came home and put himself in timeout while I had a very lengthy discussion with the principal.  I was assured at the beginning of the year that they had not lost a kid yet....well they certainly haven't had one of my kids
in their school very long have they.

Detention

So #2 earned himself two days in detention this week.  It was one of those moments as a parent that you are trying really hard to be supportive and respectful to the teacher but inside you are really laughing out loud.

Apparently, #2 had a sub in science this week and Ferris Bueller decided that wouldn't it be funny if we started the wave during the middle of class.  Yep, he orchestrated the entire thing!  The sub was not amused.  2 days!  We hope it was worth it.

misunderstanding

We were in our family council tonight when #4 declared she needed  to work on her cursive this week.  Well she didn't annunciate the word quite right and #3 looked at her quite stunned.  He questioned her by saying, "you're going to work on your cursing this week?"

Yes, just so you know we all set those king of goals around here!  Maybe we need to work on listening...LOL

So my trusty dog Holly started barking at 2:30 this morning, something I usually ignore but I also heard footsteps.  We jumped out of bed to check  the kids, turn the outside lights on and try to find the intruder.

This is what we found the next morning.  Bon has a secret fan club!

a summer evening 5 years ago....

As I posted the last comment  it stirred a memory of an experience back when we were in Arlington National Cemetery.

We had hiked up to the tomb of the unknown soldier with our 5 kids and were trying to explain that they needed to be quiet and be respectful.  All was going well, we were watching the deliberate actions of the soldier as he walked down one way, turned and then turned to walk the other way.  It was almost the time of the changing of the guard.  The next soldier was almost in place and the man calling out the instruction yells out in a very rhythmic tone..."will you please keep your children on the right side of the rope".  I looked down and sure enough there was #4 sneaking under the rope barrier  trying to get away.  Nice!  So for the rest of the day the procession was probably 5 seconds off their schedule because my kid couldn't follow the directions!

I love to see the temple

So we are trying to prepare the kids for the Twin Falls Temple open house.  As Dad was talking to #5 and #6 today  he told them they would have to be very quiet and not touch anything in Heavenly Father and Jesus' house.  #6 then says "Can I touch Heavenly Father and Jesus?"  Dad stopped for a minute and said, "well I'm not sure they are going to be there" and which point #5 steps in and asks "did they leave in their car?"  When Dad said he was pretty sure that is not how they get around they were a little confused.  I'm pretty sure we go to church every week but apparently they have missed  a few things.  #5 really wants to know what kind of car they really drive???

We hope this experience goes well...we may be the first people to get thrown out of the temple open house!

Take them camping once and they never forget....

I had a little knock at the door today.  It was 8:00 am and I couldn't imagine which one of the kids friends would be coming over that early.  Well I opened the door and #6 was standing there.  When I asked him what he was doing, he informed me he had been outside peeing in the bushes.  Apparently it is too hard for him to get out of bed and walk to the next room to use the bathroom so he walked past the bathroom and out the back door to use the bushes instead.  What was he thinking???

Dad took the kids camping yesterday and today and found a great place to go fishing.  He only ended up taking 3, 4,5,6 with him but they had a great time--that is until the realities of life came crashing down on them.  Fishing is a great thing, but when you kill the fish and start cutting it apart,  it was more than #5 could handle.  He had named his fish Biff and really thought he was going to take it home to live in a tank, after all "fish are friends, not food!"

#5 has now been home an hour and we have fried and eaten Biff, and he has not stopped crying since he left the fish cleaning station.   That was at 10:00 am this morning.  I'm not sure he will ever eat meat again.

Dad is not sure camping in this area is a great thing if you want sleep.  It is dark around 10:00 and light at 4:30 am.  You guessed it the kids were up and rearing to go as soon as the light hit the sky!  And I was complaining about having to wake up at 8:00am with #7 this morning....
